I store my pontoon covered outside with several damp rid,s and charcoal inside. The first 2 years no problem but last year a post collapsed and let watter inside creating a major mildew problem. I was able to clean up the mildew( Starbrite is the best), but now whenever the boat is covered for several weeks the mildew starts to come back. I'm worried about winter storage this year....is there anything anyone can recommend to prevent mildew??!! We go to Florida for the winter and will not be here to monitor the problem or catch it early? I'm thinking about a cermaic heater, any thoughts?

Thanks

You might try misting everything under the cover with just the plain Lysol disinfectant.

Before I built my garage, I used to spray down my boat and the cover with an industrial product called Microban. This product is typically used to cure mold and fungus problems in houses and to disinfect hospitals. It works well. It comes in gallon containers and I bought a fogger to apply it. I sprayed the interior of the boat (all compartments too) and both sides of the cover. I did not wipe anything down, and then I put on the cover. If I had a chance, I would lift a corner of the cover and fog under it once every month or so. I had very little mold when I did this, and spring cleanup was easy.

I don't do it anymore because of that nice big (dry) garage. I'd be glad to show you what to do and let you borrow my fogger.
