I don't play golf but have observed quite a few posts on that course over the past year or so.  Unfortunately the consensus was that it is in pitiful shape.

Maybe the rainy summer has helped.  Hate to see an asset like that go to waste.

Last time I played in the early summer it was in terrible shape.  They simply cannot afford weed control and the greens are in pretty bad shape. They do keep the weeds mowed.  It is a decent layout but for the money it is just not worth it.  We have been playing Lakewinds in Alex City which has ridiculously small domed greens and no practice tee but it is a much better deal.  Next is National which is a little more,expensive but very nice.  Wish I could give a better report but for ~$50 per person with range balls Stillwaters is just not worth it.  Hope that can change as the people are nice but they are in a death spiral.

Golf at Stillwaters really started the downward trend years ago when they closed the old course.

Thanks for all the responses.  I talked to the lady at the course and she said that it was in its best shape all summer.  Not sure if she was just trying to get people to play.  Anyone played within the last 2 weeks?

4 of us showed up a couple of weekends ago.  There were 5 cars in the parking lot.  The lady said that we could not play because they did not have anymore carts charged.  I kid you not.  Lock in all details before you go.

Don't waste your time.....go to RTJ in Opelika.  30 minute drive and it is in awesome shape. Played Links course last week. I used to play SW but so embarrassed because I brought guest.

People that I have talked with tell me the course is in the best shape in years. The greens are a little slow because they are being allowed to heal from an infestation of nematodes from earlier this summer. I work on the green's crew and I am proud of the progress that has been made. We have a long way to go to make the course into what we know it can be but with continued hard work we will get there. I hope that you will come visit us and see for yourself. Good golfing everyone.
