I'm not trying to stir the pot, but I haven't seen any updates on the big boat law!

1) Is the boat bill now a law?
2) If a law is it currently being challenged?
3) Is it being in-forced and if not will it be in-forced?

I know emotions can run high on this issue but I'm just looking for information.

Thanks

in-forced as oppose to out-forced?

The big boat law that you speak of is know by the state of Alabama as the "Three Lakes Law". According to Officer Buchanan's announcement during the LMRA meeting 6-8-08, the law is on hold at this time. The ruling to uphold the law is being appealed by the folks that file the suite.

Cat will know for sure but I believe the law is in full effect and the appeals are done. How the MP enforces the law is up to them.

Spoke with some great marine police a couple of weeks ago about this while out at Chimney Rock. He said that currently the law is on hold. The law is again being litigated and under appeal. They are not enforcing this length limit or any other parts of the ruling. The last time I checked before memorial Day they had ordered the books and permits etc. Marine Police said that they are not issuing any of those permits etc. Asked them the best way to stay informed on the progress...what do you know they said this forum and web page was a good place. Let's keep informing each other of Lake News so we can all stay informed. Also questioned what happened with the legislation regarding the 100ft clearance/easement to structures and vessels. Was told that issue also got shut down, no longer being considered due to concern and protests issued by the fishing industry. Just an FYI. Thanks to the Marine Police for helping me understand what is going on. Hope everyone is safe in the upcoming Labor Day Weekend celebrations.
