Donald J. Trump declared a $916 million loss on his 1995 income tax returns, a tax deduction so substantial it could have allowed him to legally avoid paying any federal income taxes for up to 18 years, records obtained by The New York Times show.
The 1995 tax records, never before disclosed, reveal the extraordinary tax benefits that Mr. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, derived from the financial wreckage he left behind in the early 1990s through mismanagement of three Atlantic City casinos, his ill-fated foray into the airline business and his ill-timed purchase of the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan.
Tax experts hired by The Times to analyze Mr. Trump’s 1995 records said tax rules that are especially advantageous to wealthy filers would have allowed Mr. Trump to use his $916 million loss to cancel out an equivalent amount of taxable income over an 18-year period.

If what you say is correct, IS IT LEGAL TO SPREAD YOUR LOSES OVER MULTI YEARS?? Does everyone have that same ability according to Fed laws? I'm pretty sure it's totally legal. So your point is???
Be sure to give us the details on the spider in your pants story you posted!!

Trump was able to take a yoouge tax loss because his Atlantic City hotels / cassinos were in the crapper due to his poor decisions in financing and management.
Trump dumped on war hero and POW John McCain...''McCain is no hero...hero's don't get captured''. Trump declares himself to be a "really smart businessman, a great businessman". Businesses run by smart and great businessmen don't have to go bankrupt leaving creditors, investors, and the nation's coffers out in the cold, especially in the middle one of history's strongest boom economies.

So that puts o-BAMMIE's and the UAW's General Motors in the same category as casinos? I do believe Atlantic City has been a dimokrap run ghetto for decades, and the whole place is screwed, most casinos are bankrupt, and the place has been taxed to death.....right?

I have no problem with you donating an old cabin. It's not the donation but rather the valuation. How did you arrive at a value for an old cabin that you planned to tear down?

Did you read the article back in the summer revealing that the Trump campaign is paying Trump's Real Estate Management Company something along the line of 2.5 times the per square foot rent other tenants of Trump Tower are paying? Can't find it now, but it was rather instructive.

We have good friends (Republicans BTW) who donated an old barn and several smaller outbuildings to a GA volunteer fire department for training purposes without any claim for a tax deduction. They felt getting the barn down and the land cleared for free was more than enough compensation without any tax benefit that would, slight though it be, have to be made up by others. Guess it just depends on where your priorities lie. Never thought of these friend as bleeding heart liberals.

WASHINGTON ? After bragging for a year about how cheaply he was running his campaign, Donald Trump is spending more freely now that other people are contributing ? particularly when the beneficiary is himself.
Trump nearly quintupled the monthly rent his presidential campaign pays for its headquarters at Trump Tower to $169,758 in July, when he was raising funds from donors, compared with March, when he was self-funding his campaign, according to a Huffington Post review of Federal Election Commission filings. The rent jumped even though he was paying fewer staff in July than he did in March.
The Trump campaign paid Trump Tower Commercial LLC $35,458 in March ? the same amount it had been paying since last summer ? and had 197 paid employees and consultants. In July, it paid 172 employees and consultants.
