I saw on the forum a while back that someone was pretty disappointed in Stillwaters.  Just wanted to get some feedback from anyone that has played there in the last month or so and what kind of condition it is in.  Last year it was in pretty decent shape.  Not in RTJ shape but decent enough to play a round.  Got some people coming from out of town to play golf and enjoy the lake. Would like see what someone who has actually been on the course thinks so I know what to expect.  Not going to Auburn or anywhere to play....it will be Stillwaters no matter how bad...just want some opinions.  Thanks.

My wife and I played a couple of weeks ago.  Fairways were in decent shape.  Greens were pretty bad.  They have some other kind of grass growing in places and it is faster growing so it makes some rough putting.  All in all not a great experience but its not that expensive so you are getting what you pay for.  I frankly don't like the layout of some of the holes but that is common to a lot of courses.

The greens are incredible at Lakewinds... The fairways are awesome... Even tho its a municpal course the employees working there take pride in the course and really keep it up. If you have never played there try it once and let us know how you liked it...

   Hit um long and straight

Maintenance is down a bit but I really like the Still Waters course and think we are lucky to have it.

"Maintenance down a bit". That's very generous. But it is still a good course to play. I think for a resort type course Stillwaters is an excellent design, wide fairways, large landing areas, fairways on most holes are graded to push the ball to the hole. The greens are poor to fair but are still put-able and in most cases true. I'm a hack and this course is good for hacks, I wish someone would buy the course and treat it right!

Always wondered why Zettler bought those courses.

Some how the courses at Still Waters need to be saved and they need a restaurant.

Wish whoever,  would talk to the woman from Cecile's who was going to open the restaurant at the Elks and cut a deal with her.

Then if a group of 500 or so golfers could get together and put up $1000 apiece  and agree to pay $300 in monthly dues, the thing could get resurrected.

Why don't you buy it and then you can do whatever you want with it.  Then you can change the  name to Willow Point West.

And why pursue someone that was failing in one eatery to open another?  And don't even try to argue that she wasn't failing.  If she wasn't why hold a 'benefit' concert to benefit yourself?!  Rhetorical question, I know the answer.

I don't want to own a golf course or a restaurant.  I do not want to deal with the public.

I don't care who opens the restaurant at Still Waters just wish someone would,  especially, if they open the old one down by the water.

I do believe that an unsubsidized public golf course will not work at Still Waters.

Still Waters can never be Willow Point.  There are not enough 1%ers left for that to happen and they all want to be at WP. Which by the way is not a true Country Club.  Members there gain no equity for their $35,000 buy in.

What I was suggesting for Still Waters was an equity Club where the membership makes the decisions and elects the directors.   The club would lease or purchase the facilities.

The Golf course needs a water front hotel with meeting rooms and the support of Stillwater residents.....unfortunately it will get neither

Needs hotel and a destination like a casino or waterfront restaurant. Too bad... Because I used to love the course....just has deteriorated to a point of unfortunate shape

"I don't want to own a golf course or a restaurant.  I do not want to deal with the public."

But in reality I think the public would not want to deal with your a$$.  As negative and smartazz as you are no way you could ever be someone the public would want to deal with.  To all others who responded...thanks.  We will give it a shot.  It might suck but really we have about 3 foursomes that are going just to have some fun.  We are used to the RTJ's but we can deal with a malnurished course.  I played there last year and it was not that bad.  We will have plenty of refreshments to get us through the round.

Bryan H. Downing = Harvey Updyke = Crimson4Lif

a teabag                      a dirt bag            a douche-bag

all three of you can Kizma smartazz.

and by the way Crimson  it is better to be a smartazz than a dumbazz

Now explain why you don't belong to a private golf club?  Is it because you can't get in?

You probably never attended The University.

Naz T baz turd. It is difficult to find a thread where the Anuice fails to personally attack a poster. He may be a nice guy to the folks that know him, maybe not, but on this forum it seems he doesn't know, recognize, or respect civil boundaries. Bruce, it's time to either take him to school or take him to the curb.

This chain started out being about the condition of the Still Waters golf course.

I jumped in and said basically that  a Country Club should be formed  and charge dues and initiation fees to improve the course with the intent on lease purchasing the course.

Lifer jumped me and said I should buy the place and turn it into Willow Point West. Don't understant the West thing because it is in fact I believe East.

I point out that I would not want to own a golf course or a restaurant because it would require dealing with the public.

Crimson jumps me for not wanting to deal with the public and calls me a smartazz.

I respond comparing him to Updike and the teabagger.

You jump me for being negative.

I don;t attack unless provoked.  Why are  you blaming this on me?

As stated, but I agree you were unfairly attacked on this one. I agree, running a restaurant/club at Stillwaters would be beyond what I would want to do. Call Greg over at Chuck's, as he seems to be able to manage this kind of crowd

How is suggesting he do something himself an attack?  He is always so quick to give out unwanted, and mostly cr@ppy, advice to others on what they need to do to save or create a business.  So it was suggested that he just do it  himself instead of directing others.  If you see that as an attack, well, you must think disagreeing with Obama is raaaaccist too.

I wasn't telling anyone to star or run a business.  Just suggesting that Still Waters golf would be better off as a Country club than it is as public golf course.    You are the one who suggest that a person but it.

Since you are explaining yourself,  you might want to address the "Willow Point West"  comment.

is if you don't have something related to the question asked or anything factual to add....why don't you just stay out of the conversation.  As a quick response I play golf at many courses because it is nice to see different courses and I have no interest in having some status quo to boast that I belong to a "club".  Couldn't care less.  As for Bama....yea I am a hard core Bama fan.....wouldn't kill any oak trees to prove it but I do my fair share of supporting the beloved Tide!  Proud of it and not really anything that could change it.  As for attending.....nah....went to Troy.  Probably a good thing too.  I would have never made it out of T-town alive.  Not real sure how any of this has anything to do with the simple question of what shape Stillwaters course is in....but as the numerous posts you have made show the true azz shines through again.  P.S.  Why don't you just take you a poll of how many forum folks think your an idiot and azz....that should clear up any confusion you might have that it is indeed a fact.

Smitty.....After I play the course I will be glad to reply about the shape.
Cat.....as far as the 130's....if I was that bad I doubt the shape of the course would even matter.  Come play with us.....we need someone to help us drink the beer.

What I can recommend to you is 1. Support the school you attended 2. If you want to limit responses to posts, get you own forum. No one woul frequent it because you are boreing. 3. Take your own poll. I support the TIDE because I am an Alum. got my card there and one from AU, and love them both. I do have a question for you. I guess that I missed class the day when they explained the meaning of status quo, in the context in which you used it. "having some status quo to boast that I belong to a "club"." I just don't understand the meaning of "status quo". In that context, could you explain. Like they say at ND. "LUBRICATE THE TROJANS"
