My place got ripped off again sometime between Thursday March 14 and Sunday morning March 17. The usual stuff: TV (only DTV, not the 90 pound tube type), receiver, liquor, ammo for 12ga. and 9mm. The cost to repair my cabin was more than what they can get for what they stole. Checked the neighborhood and found 2 other places violated with doors standing wide open.
If that has never happened to you,,, you have no idea how Pis$$$d you can become instantaneously.
Coosa County Sheriff's Deputy does not advise a 12 gauge/trip string booby trap in the house nor bungee stakes in places around entry points. And, since Coosa has a total of 4 patrol cars for the whole county, wait****, 2 on and 2 off, chances of catching these greasers in action are slim, even with an alarm routed to the County 911 system.
Game Cameras are apparently called for. They will not PREVENT IT but, maybe at least I can share with the cops the results of their efforts. Recommendations please for Game Cameras to cover this situation? Thanks a bunch..... Looking forward to viewing pix of these pigs hauling my stuff away//////

I am sorry Mack. Know that feeling. My ex and her friends stole me blind whilst I was first over here on Lake Martin. A few things I know for sure, others one can only surmise. Collectables, guns, tools, knives and bladed walking canes (family heirlooms from 16th century), antique instruments etc. Canes and knives have not shown up. They are registered and authenticated. Had a choice, could have gotten paid by insurance, but then ex would have been prosecuted for parts. Rather difficult decision when still have minor child. Chose to let it go. Good choice as now child lives with me and sees the bs from my ex. Kids are always more important than things or money.
I just hope you get to the point where you see the beauty of our area and forget the rest. That said, if those sorry sob's ever erred and came into my house while I am here, well, let's just say Good Mourning to their families. That is where my line is drawn.

A friend just told me about some infrared wifi cameras that will text a pic to you whenever it detects motion. I've got one coming. I'm sorry I don't have more details but he found these on eBay I think. When it gets here, I'll let you know what the details are. But supposedly, all it needs is 110 volts and wifi. I'm planning to mount mine under the security lights that come, one whenever someone walks down the sidewalk.
Good luck,
<><

My request is for info on Game Cameras. Good/bad/expensive/cheap/etc. No HiTech facilities are available in most places around the lake. I just want your opinions on lo-tech game cameras that I can place on the property and catch pix of these as$$oles taking my stuff// maybe a face or a tag number to share with the law, or other action groups with weapons.

Very sorry for you loss. I think they are not really interested in the items but converting them to cash at a pawn shop. You and your neighbors might want to visit those in the area, Alex City, Auburn, or Opelika. All of us cabin owners face the same threat. With very sparse law enforcement (lack of county money), about the only option I have found is not to have any newer TVs or guns at the cabin. I bring them back an forth. Big headache, but about my only choice.

At Bass Pro... WildGame Innovations. Less than $100.00 I have 3 work good (infared). I caught the meathead screwing around on my place.
Place them to high to reach from ground. They will be going too fast to take time to rig a ladder to get them (do not leave one laying around). Batteries last about 3 months.
Good luck.

Your right, it's a sick feeling and something that pops back into your mind every time you go back to your place. I went to a sign shop and had a few "internet linked video surveillance" signs made....about $25.00. I made up a security company name and logo. I've not had a problem since.
A few summers ago I made a decision. It was a beautiful day, prime time for spending time on the water, when I found my children, nieces and nephews all watching television. My sister and I agreed to stop the cable service and remove the TV's. The only high tech gizmo we have now is a small sound dock that plays your I-Phone music. We keep it in a closet while we are away. However, we did leave a huge tube type TV and VCR in full view. I would imagine when a potential thief looks through a window at that TV he/she decides to find better picking. Low tech seems to be a good solution.
A friend of mine lives in south Florida. He keeps his 28' boat at a storage lot that's had a history of thefts. He had it fitted with a GPS that's cell phone enabled. He was at a meeting in Arizona when his cell phone notified him that his boat was moving. He excused himself from the meeting, called law enforcement, and the thieves were caught 3 miles from the storage area. It's pretty pricey, but works.

After having his cabin burgled, my friend put two big bear traps in
the back of his truck for a couple of weeks. He visited all of the local watering holes, showing off the traps and telling everyone that he was going to catch them next
time. He then chained one to a tree (not set) right in front of
his cabin and took the other and put it in his garage at home.

A couple of weeks ago the Tallapoosa County Sheriff announced the arrest of a suspect for a large number of lake burgularies. Suspect is from Dadeville. It might be worth a call to the sheriff's office to see if this guy made it over to your part of the lake.

As reported in the Alex City "Look Out!"
30 burglaries connected?Published 1:52pm Wednesday, March 20, 2013Email By Kevin Taylor, Outlook Staff Writer Dadeville man arrested, charged in multiple home thefts in Elmore, Tallapoosa counties A Dadeville man is facing multiple burglary and theft charges and is believed to be connected to up to 30 separate burglaries of homes on Lake Martin along the Elmore and Tallapoosa county lines. Matthew Mann, 26, was arrested March 6 and charged with three counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree theft of property and one count of receiving stolen property. Mack Daugherty, chief of security for Russell Lands Corp., said this was the second-largest burglary ring on Russell Lands property in the past 20 years. “At least 12 homes on the Tallapoosa County side of the lake were hit, and the rest were on the Elmore County side,” Daugherty said. “This was an example of great cooperation among the Elmore County Sheriff’s Department, Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department and the Dade-ville Police Department.” Daugherty said the investigation spanned at least six months of reports of homes that were forcibly entered and particular items stolen. “He wanted flat screen TVs and other electronics,” he said. Tallapoosa County Sheriff Jimmy Abbett said Mann allegedly did not take anything else other than newer televisions. “He wouldn’t take any of the older models,” Abbett said. “He didn’t take cash, jewelry or anything else other than TVs.” The homes Mann allegedly burglarized were located along County Line Road, Governors Island and north of Russell Crossroads. Daugherty said Russell Lands Security initiated the investigation and later made a positive identification of Mann after some of the TVs, which were reported stolen, were found in an Alexander City pawn shop. “Our surveillance equipment proved to be a huge asset in helping break the case,” Daugherty said. In addition to his current charges, Abbett said Mann has separate charges pending in Coosa County and was recently indicted on domestic violence charges in Tallapoosa County. Once Mann’s cases in Tallapoosa County are concluded he will face additional theft and burglary charges in Elmore County, according to Sheriff Bill Franklin. “We’re gonna let Tallapoosa County take care of him first before having him brought down here to deal with the charges here,” Franklin said. Mann is currently being held in the Tallapoosa County Jail on an unspecified bond amount. Taylor is copy editor for The Wetumpka Herald.

Primos Truth Cam 35 - $79.00 online
You can take pictures or video. I choose pictures. Its infared so there is no flash but a dim red light will appear. So far noone (including the police) have ever found mine.
Install 4 "D" cell batteries (DO NOT BUY FROM DOLLAR STORE) Install 8 Gig SD Card
Set the date and time and get out of the way...
I always try to post a NO TRESPASSING sign in the camera view for extra insurance when I take the picture to the authorities.
You can disquise the camera with tree limbs, or something but, make sure there are no moving branches to activate the motion camera... You will take 5000 pictures of nothing. Gets old looking through taht many pics of nothing...
I suggest you get it installed and test it for 24 hours before you leave it and go back to your full time home.
Its the best thing I have ever done for empty rental houses.
I hope this has been helpful to everyone...

My property is obviously prime for a thief. It is @75 yards off the paved road and down a curved drive thick with woods both sides. Cattle gate located midway was NO Problemo. They just slipped the hinge down and pushed it aside. None of this is visible from the street, the water or close neighbors. I have a heavy steel entry door so, they backed their pickup up to the kitchen window, kicked it out, entered, and hauled my stuff thru the heavy duty steel door from the inside. Easy Pickin'.
I appreciate your suggestions. I have moved my gate to street level, maybe a deterrent, who knows? Game Cameras are on order. Signs also.
If these measures do not work, I very well might need a very good Defense Attorney.

I share your sentiments totally. My place was broken into on March 15th. Thief kicked in French door setting off alarm system so in their haste they ripped my 50" flat screen off the wall above fireplace doing significant damage to sheet rock and of course destroying my door which has to be replaced. I hope they come back because there will be a surprise waiting for them or any other low life who wants to try and break in my lake house.

Well friend, if you do anything beyond taking their picture, you will probably find yourself in jail and the burglar will own your lake place. Sweet, ain't it??
