Played yesterday with my wife and the course was in the worst shape I have ever seen it. They have apparently stopped all pesticides, herbicides and fertilizer. The fairways are mostly mowed weeds and the greens are even worse. Not one putt rolled true as the ball bounced over these lighter green patches. Had one approach shot to a green plug instead of bounce. We paid $104 for two rounds and a bucket of balls. Way more than the course is worth. I've seen this before with courses struggling financially and it's a death spiral. Can't maintain the course but want to keep green fees up which makes it not worth playing. Not sure what the solution is for them. Everyone that works there is very nice and the layout is pretty good. Just don't seem to have the finances to pay for proper maintenance.

That I would allow my defeat to Diane to impact my review of the course?!? OK, scratch that question..... Of course I am bitter about her whooping me but I also think the course is in terrible shape. Besides, have you seen how far up ladies get to hit? C'mon, be a man and hit from the senior tees like me!!! Ok, so I'm not senior eligible yet but so what.....lets keep this course review on track and forget about my score.

Too me, it's not a very good layout. I'm sure I've played worse, but can't remember where. (Maybe Sharpe's Lake)

Some of the holes are interesting and some are dreadful.  Its not my favorite course to play but if it is in good shape it is worth the price they charge.  With current conditions it is simply not worth ~$50, more like half that amount.

Sorry MM. Not directed at you. Just my opinion of course. It sure isn't worth the price. Heck, I played 9 holes last June and it cost me $38. After they got my money, they said I should have waited 10 minutes and the price would go down.

I agree on the layout not being the best but your story about the charge for 9 holes really tells you a lot about how bad things are financially for them.  Most would tell you to wait the 10 minutes to get the better rate.  Any recommendations besides the RTJ course in Opelika?

You've got me there. Maybe Indian Pines (Opelika) or Auburn Links.

It's probably more of a drive than you want. But Coosa Pines in Childersburg is in great shape and getting better. I know it's less than $30 during the week and a little more on weekends. And tee times are encouraged on weekends. But it's a lot of bang for your golfing dollar. Peace, <>< TC
