While this is a worthy cause, I have to wonder if it's not coming a few weeks too soon, since way too much island trash is there because of messy campers, and many of those same messy campers will be using those same spots on Labor Day weekend. In fact some if them might be using those spots while the clean-up is going on. Will those islands and spots be ignored, or will the clean-up crews invade their campsites and create some lean spots that the campers will fill with trash before the break camp?

In my humble opinion, anytime is a good time to cleanup...  before or after a 3 day weekend.  Either way, people like Chris who take the initiative to organize events like this are much appreciated in my books.  Events like this support our lake community and are one of the many reason Lake Martin is a great place to be.

Hopefully you will come out too!  I will loan you some gloves and extra garbage bags.

P.S. There is an island across from Willow Point that has a pile of beer cans that must be close to 100+ for at least two years.  I'm sure others have favorite places they frequent that have seen similar?

EVERY day is a Lake Clean-Up Day to me, so while I won't be part of the group, I'll still be picking up litter when I see it. Hopefully I won't be seeing as much as usual, thanks to shay and his efforts. But to me, keeping the lake litter-free isn't a one-day deal. I'm sorry I have missed cleaning up that spot you mention, though I certainly would have if I had known about it. But why haven't YOU cleaned it? Why have you left hundreds of beer cans sitting there? Do you need a Special Day to care enough to keep the lake clean? Is the possibility of prizes what motivates you to pick up trash, even if it's not your own?

Your attitude and posts contribute to your rating on the Forum and also to why Off Topics is truly "off" for me.
If you do not want to participate, then DON'T, then shut the $$*&& up.

You raise a great point.  Yes, we should always leave a place better when we leave than when we arrived.  I wish more people thought like you do.  (I think that is some sort of boy scout motto ?)

In hind sight, and in the spirit of good land stewardship, I probably should have picked up someone else's mess the last few times I showed up to this publicly accessible site, but in my defense this particular pile is the sort that one will need boots, long sleeves and a pitch fork to navigate the poison ivy etc... all of which my normal attire of flip flops and swimming trunks would not allow.

Still, since you do this every day, perhaps a few hours from you for this event will help as a whole?  Hope to see you there my man.
