Kinda strange that a reputable fishing organization has to tour Lake Martin to see if it is suitable.

It is a national organization. But I suspect its the infrastructure that they want to see.

I recall a few months back several members posting about how they couldn't enjoy the pleasures of home ownership anymore because fishermen were constantly sitting right at the edge of private seawalls, docks and boathouses.  Others have complained about how high performance bass boats posess several of the same characteristics as the "go-fast boats" many have fought to ban over the years.  Not to mention those who have claimed for years that the lake has become way too crowded.  My question is this:  How much exposure do we really want for the lake?  A few (or many) are in favor of having BASS members from around the country come to the lake & hopefully spend a little money while in the area.  Where does this end?  If a few (or many) would like to invite the national wake boarder group to have their competetions here, will we give up another weekend or two to high wake producing boats in every slough?  Next the national sea plane association could take a weekend where we have to constantly ride looking up to make sure no one is going to land on us.  Next PETA can have a save the goats rally one weekend and a Pirate Ship Parade advertised nationally can take another.

Don't get me wrong, I am in retail and want all the economic development infused into this area that we can get; but at what cost to the quality of life I have enjoyed on Lake Martin for the last 25+ years.

Anyway, that is my philosophical rant for the month, now back to work.

Reading through the BASS threads I had the same thoughts. Well said.

All the Alabama BASS Trail does is have your lake listed on the website where recreational fishermen and women can find out more about the lake, book hotel reservations, find out what activities maybe happening around the respective lake, current fishing conditions, etc, etc. It does not guarantee any tournaments, etc. It is for recreational fishermen and women, not the pros. More of a Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail website for Fishing. If you have not looked at their website, you need to check it out as "ignorance is bliss"

I really don't think this has anything to do with the Bass Anglers Sportsmen Society, which I believe is located in B'ham now. Being on this trail won't amount to a hill of beans. I wouldn't worry about it unless the Koreans start bass fishing.
