We just got a notice from the city of Dadeville that from now on we have pay the monthly fee for garbage service to the city instead of directly to the vendor.  We are checking but it also seems that the rate the city is charging is more than we pay the vendor.  We also have to pay a $50 fee to the city for the garbage cans and the letter said if we didn't pay for the cans they would take them away.

First of all, I already paid the garbage company for the can.  So if the city takes my cans it is stealing and I will file a complaint with someone other than the city of Dadeville police department.  Second of all, if they indeed will charge more than they pay for the service this is a hidden tax, nothing more and nothing less.

Is this a legitimate letter or a scam?  If it is legitimately from the city then we need to pitch a fit with these people.

This is happening all over the U.S..
City Goverments are broke and they intend to make their shortfall back from mine and your checking accounts. The main problem is that they are not trying to bring their budgets down but, rather charge us more for services & taxes. Call your City Council person or your County Commissioner and voice your oppostition. Remember your vote counts in the next election and when a person is elected as a public offical they are suppose to be working on behalf of those people.

City Goverment,s are looking at ways to cover budget shortfalls and taking the money from you & I will work fine in their eyes.

Come on people! Do we sit here and follow the sheep to slaughter or do we rise up.
It is time the voice of America makes a stand!!

Sweet letter too. Tried to make us feel like we had done somthing wrong. Who in the world wrote that? Nice timing too. It was sent out AFTER the quarterly bill from the garbage company was paid. Now how are we supposed to get that back?

Yeah I liked that part too.  Especially the part about it having "come to their attention" that we were paying for  our garbage service as if we were sneaking around behind their backs.  I am not so much opposed to a change in the service but the way they have gone about it is all wrong.

I also agree that for them to send this letter after we paid for the next 3 months with the threat of stealing our cans that we paid for is just plain wrong, if not illegal.  We will be calling them this week to demand an explanation.  I also resent being told I have to pay a deposit for a service I have been diligently paying for over the last 7 years.

Then consider cancelling it.
When we had garbage service at LM, it cost about $8.00 every time they picked up: once a week year round. And probably 40% of the year we we not even there at all. We cancelled, and started hauling trash back home. Not so bad
Let em' eat their cans.

I think we should make an appointment with the mayor and our city councilman to discuss the matter. Let me know when you are going and I'll do it too. You know what? Maybe we should take a cue from some of our other groups and go marching :-) I can't believe the local paper hasn't reacted either, Maybe they could get calls at the Record or Outlook....????

Interesting. I'm technically in Dadeville as well, off Highway 34, and haven't gotten a letter yet. Sounds like they did a bang up job of transition and communication planning! I actually paid through the end of the year, so I've got more of a credit outstanding but I imagine they'll transfer it over. Them swinging by and taking my can without any communication would not be helpful! For those that have gotten it, can you please post contact information that was included? Or better yet, post a link to a scanned copy on Photobucket, etc. Perhaps a carefully coordinated pile on their doorstep will help clarify the feelings on the methods of the change and communication. Oh, say, Monday after Labor Day.....

Just to clarify a few details, based on my discussion with "Debbie" at Dadeville City Hall. This only applies to locations actually IN the city of Dadeville, not all the surrounding areas that are a Dadeville address but not in city limits. Also, this is apparently not an issue even for all the locations inside the city. Are there actually any lake lots that are in the city limits to begin with?
