I can see both sides. But I suspect that the Beren players feel like they answer to a higher authority. I wonder if this came up in say, NY, if the decision would be different.

Over the years, was able to see St. Joe's, LaSalle, Villanove, Loyola NO, Georgetown and others play on Sunday. I hear the Festivusivians are petitioning their leadership to establish their 4 day Sabbath (Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Monday), and force religious accommodation based on the Civil Rights Act of 1964, on their employers.

It was quite clear when they joined TAPPS that this would occur if they were successful. To me. there is no conflict.
"Beren joined TAPPS last year, and Burleson said the school was told then to not expect TAPPS to adjust its postseason schedule.
"We think it's clear-cut," Burleson said. "They were advised, up front, that TAPPS would not change that, and they chose to join TAPPS anyway. There was never any indication from TAPPS that their appeal would be approved.""

Your point is well taken, but should TAPPS take that position? Are they interested in their convenience or full participation by ALL the students?
As I said, I can see both points. but maybe TAPPS shouldn't have made that proclamation in the first place.
Put yourself in the place of the students. They want to compete, but have religious commitment. Are you saying that TAPPS should force them to compromise their religious beliefs and practices on TAPPS terms? Cmon now, isn't it really that TAPPS just doesn't want to be bothered, that adjusting the schedule might take a little extra work?

Surprised you haven't heard of them. They began to assemble late in the last century, and came together because the traditional religious holidays, as well as some made up "celebrations of history, harvest and life" just didn't suit them.

"What if" they were playing the Eye A Toll A Bombers. Would it be reasonable to stop the game if it happened to conflict with a call to prayer?

You know I'm gonna collect on that espresso offer some day....:>)
Spend a lot of time running back and forth to Atlanta and Augusta these days.
But don't spend a lot of time worrying about fringe religions....are you one of 'em? I thought you said you were a mackerel snapper (I can say that becuse I grew up as one).

It comes from a Seinfeld episode that had me laughing so hard I spilled my after dinner cordial. And I am rarely more than 8 minutes away from the stores. Let me know when you are coming through. Used to do the Augusta thing when I had a contract with a appliance/lawn tractor group. Often stopped there for day long "meetings", before heading to Orangeburg. Worked for extended periods across 40 states, offices in 22, struggled with concluding which place I liked the very least, Orangeburg or Augusta. Then, wound up with Wed-Sun passes to Augusta National for Masters Week. That, and only that, kept Augusta off the bottom.

I too can see both sides. However, my sympathies lean more toward the team than the association. Moving a game up 2 hours should not pose any great burden on anyone. Just switch the 9:00 and the 6:00 or 7:00 game. I am proud of both the school and players for sticking to their beliefs and being willing to sacrifice for them.

The game has now been rescheduled. Kudos to the boy and school for not violating their religous beliefs. Unfortunately it was because of a judges order. That bothers me since this does not seem to me to be a violation of any law and is another erosion of private association's ability to set their own rules and regulations.

It bothers me because we now have, in place, another legal precedent/requirement regarding religious accommodation.
