No feb not what you are thinking i mean DOCK not dock.

Looking to tear down my 25 year old main dock this winter and replace with a dock which can be used for fishing, built in benches, storage unit, hand rails, etc. basically a multi-function family entertainment dock / deck and wanted to get some ideas before I finalized my plans.

Anyone know of any really nice docks like this on the lake I could see to get ideas? Any directions would be appreciated. Or any good websites also would be apprecaited as I do not want ot do this for another 25 years or so.

You should have done it last year before Alabama Power started charging $250 for a permit, but would like to see it when you are finished.

Boathouse? Swim platform? Boat lift? How deep is water? I'm sure you know that you can go out 50ft plus 12 ft for swim platform. 1500sq ft over lake bottom total. Deck over boat house? Budget: $100,000--we can fix you up.

OSMS:

Thanlks for the advice / ideas, but you forgot one thing I'm cheap and do all the work myself. Gives me a reason to spend my winter weekends at the lake.

Okay, grab you some 4X4s, 2X4s and build away. I built mine twice, but with luck I may be about to get a real boat house. My water's too deep here to "do-it-yourself", but I will be doing a lot of the trim work.

Mav did this last off season. One thing that we did to make it easier and to where we could do more on our own was to have a contractor clear the old dock, set the new 6x6's and band the structure at the water level. We did the rest. Worth every penny.

Thanks guys that is what I am going to do hire contractor to set 6x6's as it will require barge, then I am going to band, and do all the finish and electrical work.

Now that I have thought about it , I already have two docks (from APCO standpoint neither is a dock as under 4' wide) off the main channel back in one of our sloughs, this strcuture is going to be on the main channel off our point and will not be used to dock, store boats etc as that is what the slough docsk are for. So instead of building a dock, think I am going to build a deck with rails, built in benches, firepit, low wattage lights etc and extend my outdoor living space about 50' out into the lake. So If I make my walkway 4' wide that leaves me with a 420 sq ft deck over the lake. Nay thats to big think I'll just make it 400 sq ft (20x20 deck).
