I am exploring the idea of establishing a place near CR 34 and 49 that offers a full breakfast and lunch. I would appreciate any feedback you can provide about whether a business like this might succeed. Thanks!

If you build it, they will come. If you do a good job, they may even come back. The area needs a breakfast place. Bob's sure lost it with the last turnover to new owners, and the Home Plate recently raised breakfast prices substantially. My favorite breakfast went up $2. That was a 25% increase. It is still reasonable, but I thought that was a bit to much increase.

Do it on the lake. If you do it inland you will mostly get red necks and retired people who won't spend much money.
If you do it on the lake and it is good, you will still get the rednecks and retirees but you will also get the lake crowd and those who like to have a view when they eat.
Make it a hotspot and you might get forum posters

Yea, there is LOTS of commercial spots available on the lake. Better do it quick though, cuz it won't be long till only RL can build commercial on the lake.

And once again we see the attitude that the newbies have toward the 'locals'.

My advice to anyone starting a business on the lake is to carefully consider the seasonality. LOTS of activity in the Summer, considerably less in the Fall and Spring, and much less in the Winter or cold months.
Of course, the lake level is another big variable, and impossible to predict. The lake seems to need more commercial development--especially eating establishments. Good luck!

New to the lake? You mean me? I first wet my foot in Lake Martin in 1960. Have lived in the same house there since 1963 and been a member of WP since 1964. I guess that is new to those of you who have been around since 1928 or what ever it was when the water came up.
I probably jumped off chimney rock and the John Teague bridge before and after you did. Or did the B&B boys throw you off the JAT bridge. You John has a place on Martin now!!!

BTW you never told me what you do in PTC?

There is supposed to be a new strip mall going in close to the lake. It is just south of 34 on 49 very near Oscars and Stillwaters but on the other side of the road. The trees have already been rough cut for some time now but no construction has started.

There's a bill board sign just south of 34 on 49 that has the information on it. I Can't remember the name of the strip mall but it might be a good location for your new restaraunt since the other stores might draw you some business. And besides, this strip mall is closer to my house !

Please make sure to turn your lights off at night so it doesn't ruin the viewing of the stars for the rest of us!

Tough call. Lake property (high costs)--49 and 34 would be my suggestion. (Less seasonal, cheaper property, near other restaurants, which to me is a plus, and more locals. Prices would dictate a lot as to profits, and not locals or old folks.) -- But what we really need is a grocery store. One near Lake Harding that is connected to a restaurant (even though small) has most anything a person could want. Go down and look at it. Highway 379 south of Long Bridge.

We are also considering a place near Pleasure Point Marina. How do you think that might go over as more of a seasonal place and a place where you could get certain lunch items for take-out?

Sorry, it would include breakfast and lite lunches, plus things that could be taken out such as boston butts/ribs, frozen soups, etc.

You will MOP up if you locate in the area of Red Hill Road at Kowaliga Road. There is only one restaurant in this area and it is Sinclairs which doesn't want breakfast and lunch business. The people in the area of Castaway Island,Kowaliga, Trillium, Windover, Winderemere, the Ridge , Nero's Point etc are always stating how they wish they had a restaurant in this area. That there is no place for breakfast and lunch.

The first one to openin this area will do well. You should do it in this area as there is already 5 to 6 places in the area you are considering.

Have you been to Green valley ? It sounds like you haven't since you are recommending the area for a restaurant. Green Valley opened in May 2007 and is serving a great lunch. Meat market, wine, casseroles and is now open for dinner til 7. Try it- I think you'll like it.
