Either the lightning strike in July hit the tree in which the nest is located, or Al from Dadeville is still ticked off at Auburn - the tree is dead... This is the second hit for this family in the past two or three years.

Eagles most always build nests that eventually kill the tree they are in.  The nests eventually fall and the eagles will move to their 'secondary' nest which is more platform like and used for hunting and fishing.  They will turn the platform into the new nest and start over.  They usually don't move far.  I would bet they are still in the vicinity, it may just take a while to spot them again.

We rode past it going to Graveyard Island Tuesday afternoon, but have not located the new build yet...
