My goodness is Obama feckless and projects wimpy weakness when it comes to foreign affairs. It is absolutely humiliating to watch the President of the United States beg Iran to return our drone. This is a country that has been documented to have killed hundreds of our soldiers, who orchestrated an assassination attempt on our soil, who is trying to develop nuclear weapons and has promised to use them. They are our enemy and we have no reason to apologize for spying on them. In fact, if we had someone in the WH with balls we would do a lot more than that. And that doesn't even count our initially weak denials that there was a drone down in the first place. Whoever decided to make that statement in the first place, which they surely knew was false, should be fired. We should have not commented from the very beginning. Our enemies must be laughing it up and our allies must be shaking their heads in disbelief. What they should have done the moment the drone went down is sent in cruise missiles to destroy the thing. But that decision would have had to be approved by the WH and we know that wasn't going to happen. I am willing to bet Barry ran away from every schoolyard scrap and cried to the teachers to protect him. Rant over.......for now........until GF or Hound stick up for Jimmy Carter, II........

First of all, anything involved with the CIA and data collection is immediately denied. These are usually black operations and not discussed nor acknowledged. I believe that Obama is "requesting" our drone back for a reason. I don't think he seriously believes that they will return it, but it is another data point in making our case against Iran for future actions. I obviously don't have any inside information. But, I suspect that suspect that the US in continuing to build consensus in the world community. You have to remember that not everyone regards Iran as the "evil empire" that we do. Don't forget -- it was our last President who identified them as part of the "axis of evil" and some countries will see Iran's actions as legitimate defense actions. Remember what a lunatic government we are dealing with in Iran. I don't think we are interested in seeing them take some sort of radical action (nuking Israel, turning nukes over to terrorists, etc,) over something like our drone. I personally think he is handling it just fine. We don't need to engage with Iran on a hostile basis, encourage them to do something radical, or start a war there and end up with another Iraqi situation.

Hound, even if I stipulate what you are saying is true I am still sickened by the way he asked for it back. He is President of the U.S. They have killed our soldiers. We have no reason to be ashamed of our spying on them and he should have demanded they return the drone and not asked like a man-child wimp. The end result is the same. they won't give it back but at east Obama would look like our CIC instead of a spineless wimp.

As much as I dislike O'failure; what would your response be when we "demand" the drone be returned, and it is not? I also am confused why this device did not have some sort of a "no contact" self-destruct option coded to activate if operating over hostile territory...

If indeed they managed to hack it, which doesn't wash because I think the comms are encrypted and I HIGHLY doubt Iran has broken our codes, the drone might not have realized it had been taken over.

I know nothing of how this drone is constructed, but I also would have to believe that the designers took such an eventuality into consideration.  Can't comment any more, unfortunately.

I've been wondering the same thing. Wouldn't you think that if the controller lost it, it would have a self destruct device that could be activated? I don't think Iran can reverse engineer it or get it to work, unless as Hodja points out, the drone doesn't realize it's been captured. Thinking way outside the box, maybe we really don't want Iran to give it back. Maybe it is still feeding us intelligence. Wouldn't that be something?!!

Your last statement could well explain a lot of things - like its being captured intact....shucks, maybe the inside is empty...or has a jukebox playing Christmas songs...or better yet playing hava nagila (sp?) in an endless loop..

:>)

Like how to tune up the Iranian version of a 1966 Corvair? :-) Next thing you know, we will have one "go missing" over Havana, and be able to find the best source of points, condensers and gasket kits for a 1958 Ford...

You gotta admit that it would be fun to be a fly on the wall when they open a hatch and a Jack In The Box pops out at them....

Too quick on the draw I guess. It kinda goes with my mid-vision problems that keep me from reading what I've typed. Old age is catching up with me.

As I said I think Iran's response would be the same and maybe Obama was being realistic. He would only look more pathetic to act tough when everyone knows he kowtows and bows to every two bit dictator and has no spine. As far as the drone goes, it is inexplicable to me that they were able to get their hands on it intact. You would think it has some sort of self destruct mechanism but maybe I've seen too many episodes of Star Trek.

You may be on to something - I wonder if a popup nude sex toy would present them with a conundrum ... and if she opens a bottle of champagne when she presents herself...
