for a 2005 Merc 50HP outboard. I have given up trying to replace/repair a leak in the oil reservoir under the hood. So, I am going to start pre-mixing the fuel instead. The question is How do I disable the low oil alarm to keep it from screaming at me when I no longer fill the oil tank?? Any ideas? Cut the leads? Twist them together or leave apart??

Mack-I had a Suzuki 150 that did that and it was a differential pressure switch causing the problem. It was very easy to pull and clean the screen then all was O.K.

Mack, just replace the tank. The tank and sender are'nt but about 50 bucks. It would be a good excuse for you to come visit me. I hate to see you go riggin' up stuff. Call me today and lets talk. Those alarms are there for a reason. Just ask EIGHT. lmao.

so CAT and Corey come by my place to look at the problem. CAT: Bring me the tool bag, Corey. Corey: Man, that's a lot of oil in the cowling pan. CAT: Yep. Gimme' a 12mm socket. (Takes tank off. Tracing oil lines, taking off relays, yanking on wires, spraying cleaner, etc) ME: Duh Corey: There's a big crack at the filler neck at the top. ME: That can't be it, because it's at the top, Right? CAT: Nope. Corey: But, It ain't leakin now. (motor down) CAT: Nope. But, if you tilt the motor UP during launch or trailering, the oil runs out, not the bottom, but the TOP!!
Chapter #341 in the CatHouse Marine saga of solutions. CAT, let me know when the new tank comes in. I'll come pick it up and feed your biting Chicken Auction Goose. Many thanks.
