I heard this on the radio this a.m. It wasn't a local station, but it was one that is just a few miles from the lake. What they said was
rain this month: 2.52 inches rain thru this day last year: 4.63 inches normal rainfall thru today: 4.81 inches
in other words, last January was only a little drier than usual, but this January has been very dry. I thought it was wetter than normal, I guess that just goes to show that the last year has messed up our perspective.

Sounds about right. It has rained regularly, but never in large quantities in the basin.

Dittos - I thought we were having a wet January.
What site are you finding the historical rainfall info on? I am trying to gather some info to put this drought into perspective and would appreciate any good sites that anyone know of so that I can research.
Thanks.

He said he heard it on the radio....I'd like to find a source for good rainfall data too. I do know that rainfall data often varies significantly over an area as large as the Tallapoosa basin, so it would be nice to have data for several of the towns.

like my evil (LOL) near-twin posted, I heard it on the radio. If I heard correctly they were talking about rainfall amounts for the county, not individual towns. I looked online for a site that would verify their info (don't want to get Mythbuster all mad at me LOL) but I couldn't find anything.

If anyone can find the data, the google king (Mythbuster) is our man.

Try this site. It looks official, but the data isn't free.

The Alabama Climatologist's page has data for sites across the state for the past several years, free. Click through the Hourly Obs (by site) database to get Alex City rainfall amounts.
