I spent the day with my mother yesterday and went the whole gammet, church, lunch and cemetary visits. I enjoyed my day with my mother very much regardless with how bad the steak was at Niffers. The only reason we ended up at Niffers is because several other places had long waiting lines or the outside tables were full and when the eighty-four year old matriarch gives the order to " go " you move to greener pastures.

I think I may have eaten the worse steak in my life at Niffers. No I never complained, sent it back or any of the many things I have seen happen in this situation. I wasn't going to spoil my mothers day as it seems she was enjoying her meal quite happily. I will let them know.

I will not judge my visit to Niffers based on my steak but Niffers needs to get out of the steak business if what I experience was their normal fare. Since I know that some on this forum visit Niffers on a regular basis I will save my final judgement untill I have sat down with some of them and had my beer and margarittas and food because things always seem to be better when you've had a few.

One thing though. Niffers needs to simplify their menu. There's too many choices for this old head. Martha bring me a beer.Uh................please.

The best place for steaks is Popular Dawgs on 34.Niffers is more of a bar food type place. If yiou order steaks at Niffers the best is their beef tips. And who does not like $1 beer.

Have to agree with autiger, I like Poplar Dogs steaks, liquid smoke or not. Niffers has never aroused my culinary desires. I only go there for cheap Beer. By the way, even Niffer's steaks taste O.K. after a 6-pack.

Popular Dawgs does not use liquid smoke.Yhey actually have an open pit fire to cook on.Maybe the smoke you are tasting is from the wood.Personaly I can not eat anything on a charcoal grill because of the smoke taste.

Let the lighter fluid burn down for 30 minutes. Can't believe I just read someone who does not like steak on charcoal. Oh the humanity of it all!

I use to love food cooked on charcoal, but now my stomach can not handle it.I guess I am like Hank Hill ,I have to have it cooked on a gas grill now.
