Does anyone know where you can take old furniture that is past repair stage? Is there a dump near Dadeville or Alex City that will take that kind of item? Thanks!

North Central Inert Landfill at 1507 North Central Avenue. The landfill's operating hours are 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. As of May 3, 2003, the Alexander City Inert Landfill located on North Central Avenue will no longer open on Saturdays.

The landfill is permitted to accept stumps, limbs, tires, leaves, pallets, cloth scraps (and similar type material), and construction debris.

Citizens wanting to carry wastes to the landfill must purchase a dump ticket from City Hall before they will be allowed to dump. Contact Joanne at City Hall at 329-6707 for questions regarding costs for dumping.

Sun Flower Waste, which collects garbage in much of the county, operates a landfill off Highway 49 a couple of miles south of Highway 14. It's well marked. They accept pretty much anything except hazardous waste. If you go, take a checkbook or credit card. They don't accept cash.
