We launch in Wetumpka 90% of the time. It is a very good ramp, deep water. One word of caution on your trip. At the intersection of the Coosa and Tallapoosa which becomes the Alabama River it is VERY shallow. The channel is not marked. It's called Parker's Island, I believe. This is about 5-7 minutes down river from the launch. The way we navigate this area is to stay exact middle until you see the sandbar on your left...there's one on your right, too. It usually has cows standing there. Once you get to the middle of the sandbar on your right, there's a tree that overhangs...aim for that. If you stay too far left, you'll beach. Once you pass that, turn slight left and head straight for another 100 yards or so. After that, you can continue middle cruising. So basically at that area, hug the shoreline about 10 feet out to your right and you should be fine. We can't run as fast as the big boats, we can inly hit about 55 or so, but if you need a guide for that area, post the launch time and we can help you guys navigate. Oh...FYI...Lee, the water patrol, usually launches from there. He hangs out in "coves" kind of hidden, waiting for boats to cite.

Thanks NautiMinded, that is great info, it has been about 5 years since I used that ramp and went to Montgomery and that is exactly how I remember it. I will post what time we will be at the ramp later. It would be nice for you to join us....sound like you know the area very well. Peace

The sandbar close to Montgomery Marina is about 40-45 minutes downriver from Wetumpka ramp. (Cruising about 35-40 MPH). Have a "nauti" day!

I have a 40 gallon tank and should be good for the day. I can pull skiers and tubes around all day on a tank. If just cruising around I can usually go all weekend.

What do you burn an hour, about 8-12 gal. I would guess, you should be ok to Montgomery and back with a little play time....

That is odd. seems that a boat like that would have a much larger tank.

There are no fuel stops between Wetumpka and Montgomery. I have heard rumor that Mont. Marina "sometimes" will open pumps for people, but don't hold your breath. We have a 50 gallon tank and we can make it to Swift Creek and back to Wetumpka on that...cruising about 35-40 MPH. However, we have a 6cyl...so not sure about bigger engines.

I almost forgot...this is actually pretty serious. They have baptisms at the ramp on some Sundays. Usually starting between 10:30 and 11am. So, if you see a bunch of people approaching waters edge, be curteous both launching and pulling the trailers to park. The first time we saw it, we had no idea what was going on, so we launched as usual. Drove the boat around the ramp area to warm up the engine, thus "helped" baptize the poor fellow with our wake and disrupted the preacher trying to talk to the congregation, so much that he stopped until our trailer was parked. I guess we're going straight to hell now. Hopefully they have a boat ramp there!
