We will be spending our summer vacation in beautiful Lake Martin, for the 4th year in a row. Great to see the waters' return. Does anyone know if there is a slalom course or a waterski club located on the lake?

I know that there is a slalom course on LM. You can search the forum for the keywords "Slalom Course" and you will find a post from georgea0731 (Forum Name). Here is some of the history:
I've helped maintain a slalom course across from Smith's Landing boat ramp for over 10 years and it's been there longer then that.
In the past 2 weeks, someone has cut all 32 buoys and sunk the course twice! Everyone uses this course for fun. Skiers, both advance and newbies, and jet skies.
Anyone have any real info on why it's being cut now. Has someone upset anyone near by. We've invested a lot into this course and would like to continue using it, but need to find out why because I can't afford new buoys every week. A lot of young and old skiers enjoy this sport, but it would be ashame to have to get an underwater course.

I heard a rumor there is going to be one in the Parker Creek area,as it is very lightly traveled. You can ask Feb about it... ;-)

there is a course across from Pleasure Point Marina. (cannot see it from the marina) i believe it is called Hog Pen on the map.

There was a course near Real Island that I used to ski on. I think it's still there but when I was over there last year there were only 2 buoys floating.

especially if you go past nero's statue and turn right and then past the rope swing and go left, then right into that last sluogh. No houses, no seawalls to deflect wake back at you and wide enough to turn any boat around in.
Ya'll have fun and tell feb I sent you...lol.
Actually that is nowhere near febs place but, Febs slough is GREAT for watercraft. There are two islands that you can figure 8 around and the Girls Scout Camp is right there for picknicking. Just be sure to clean up after yourself.

that statue is really "Neptune and his Nymph" which came there many years ago via the Alabama Shakespear Theater in Montgomery. It's neat if you have never seen it.
WARNING: Getting back into that cove to ski you have to pass thru a VERY narrow cut. Numerous accidents there.
Also, the water depth back there is very shallow in places, like 3 feet where you would not expect it. Careful.

It would be a great spot for it except for the dangerously shallow water, hungry alligators, and irritable old f@arts.

All kidding aside, this might be a good time to remind folks that there is such a thing as boaters' courtesy. Please try not to ski (tube, jet ski, or simply race) up and down past the same house all day. It is really hard on the home owner. It's a big lake. Have mercy, please.

Yea, you are right, it is Neptune. Not sure why I said Nero. As for the shallow water, last time I was in there the shallows were full of reeds.

I think we are preaching to the choir here. There are oh so many people on the water every year that have new watercraft and have no idea about what, when, or where they ride. It will continue until the marine police start taking action on the severe problems and the others educated. Heck, it's better on Lake Harding, even with the size of the lake and the over-populated shoreline.

Possibly you have a neighbor or someone in the area that is skiing and tubing in front of HIS/HER own house all day? If so, why should they go to another part of the lake? As long as they aren't buzzing the dock, I can't see a problem here..... although most non-skiers hate any skier that gets within half mile of their dock....... Most people without jet-skies think all jet-skiers are rude......... most non-fishermen think that nobody should be able to fish near their dock.....and people who do nothing but view the lake think everyone else should be just like them.

This is exactly the reason I am asking. After reading some of the responses to my op, I am not sure what is honest advice and what is sarcasm. Where would you like me to waterski? Is there a designated spot? Lake Martin is a lakelovers paradise. For now, we visit once a year, eventuallly, we will spend much more time there. I hope I never sour of what Lake Martin has to offer. Whatever it is that keeps you on Lake Martin, enjoy it, and don't let anyone change you.

Thanks to all for your replies. Since I detected a bit of sarcasm in some responses, I'm not sure what info is accurate. If I have this wrong please let me know;
1. Across from Smiths Landing, possibly
2. Across from Pleasure Point Marina, Hog Pen
3. Parker Creek
4. LTL's directions to what sounds like a nice secluded spot to enjoy watersports.
Are these the spots I should check? Not that this matters, but I am a 45 year old adult who enjoys watersports. I consider myself a responsible adult and seasoned mariner. I understand some of your concerns but please don't group all watersports enthusiasts into one ugly category.

John,
You are free to enjoy the entire lake in any safe responsible way you wish. Don't let these naysayers keep you from what you enjoy. There are many fine spots for waterskiing and tubing. It all depends on what part of the lake you are on. Pleasure Point and Parker Creek are a long boat ride apart. Skiing on the 'big water' is not enjoyable to some due to the size of the wakes you must deal with. Most any of the creeks afford better areas for skiing. I know the lake better than most. When you get ready to come for vacation I will be happy to direct you to a nice spot where you can enjoy the lake to the fullest. It will mostly depend on where you are staying, but there is always a nice spot close by.

Thanks LTL, I will be in touch. We will be there after the 4th of July. We will be staying in southern Alexander City, just to the west of Acapulco Rock. Looking forward to a full pool after last years adventures.

I have to say that last year was one of the best I have ever spent here. And I didn't have water at all. I need about 487-488 to use my ramp. Never saw it last year. But I have neighbors who had water for most of the season. I spent more time there last year than at my place. It also made for some GREAT beach parties ( one which is imortalized on YouTube starring yours truly).
That is a great area for being centrally located, but not so great for watersports. Too much traffic and wake. I would suggest that when you want to ski you come up the river side (east side). Kowliga Bay is rough on a good day, and intolerable on a bad day. But I know a couple of spots close by that area. I can hook you up with map coordinates when the time comes.

I figured you saw it last year when I released it....lol. It was talked about a lot here. I have to go see it, it has been a couple of months since I checked on it. It is on several sites.

There is a course just off the main from the big bay by Bay Pine Island when you are headed to Wind creek State park. It will be on your left . You can see the markers as you pass by. We always play on the seadoos there.

I wasn't going to put that on the public forum. The vandals may read this. But you are correct, it is a pretty nice one and not a house in there anywhere to 'bother'. Also, north of the river bridge and railroad tressel is great for skiing. Very little traffic, only a few homes and no rough water. While you are there might as ski on up the river too.

Hey I was the one keeping it secret. Freshwater Bay Girl busted you out. But I will let EVERYONE know that your place is right across the big water so they are welcome to stop by and enjoy your hospitallity (and adult beverages). Just look for the pier with a fire place, but it may be hard to spot amongst all that waterfront you got.
