I was curious about the local churches of Christ around Lake Martin. Are they conservative? Any imput from a local evangalists or anyone who has information concering the subject would be most helpful. Thank you.

The one on Dadeville Hwy. in Alex City is more conservative than the one on Hwy 22 in Alex City. The one in Dadeville is where James Cullins is at and I really like his sermons over the others.

My family and I are members of the Alexander City Church of Christ on Hwy 22 by Hillabee Towers. Would love for you to come and visit .
Sunday School at 9:00 and Church at 10:00 am & 6:00 pm. Wed @ 7 pm
About 200 attend our church on Sunday morning.

We are familiar with all of the Churches of Christ in the area. Do not know anything bad about any of them. Good Christians in them all. All are trying to live as close as possible by the Bible. We have friends at the Church in Dadeville & Southview (Dadeville Hwy.).

That's what I heard. The only thing I don't understand is the forbidden musical instrument thing... Is that right?

The Church of Christ is based on following the New Testament without adding to or taking away from the scriptures. The New Teatament never mentions using an instrumental accompaniment therefore we want to be as safe as possible so we sing accapella during the worship service. I would also like to invite you to visit and worship with us. Worship times are listed in my earlier post.

Nor does the New Testament mention air conditioning, electric lighting, brick and mortar construction, or paved parking lots. I have yet to see a church without these things, however. I think in the beginning the Church of Christ was making a valid effort to abide by the Word by not allowing instruments to be played. However, i think that now it is done more because of the resistance of the elders to change. I also find that far too often Churches of Christ spend a majority of time preaching against other churches rather than about the words and teachings of God. I have been a member of a baptist church for years, and i have heard more about our bake sales from the few times i have visited a church of christ than i have from my own preacher. I am not attempting to insult the church--they are great Christians, it would just be nice if their ministers didnt do so much finger pointing.
