Anyone else having problems with Charter being extremely slow after 4PM?  Yesterday I gave up after 2 hours of not b eing able to get into any web site.  Mornings are just fine.

Cable internet speeds are based on the number of subscribers competing for a set bandwidth. The upside of cable-based internet is that during periods of low use it screams, but when everyone jams up the cable mith multiple simultaneous users, it crawls. Of course, by comparison, ADSL always crawls....:>) Do you have a wireless router, and if so do you have it password protected? Even WEP (wireline equivalent privacy) is better than having your wireless wide open. In that case your neighbors might be clogging up your system with their purloined internet service from your router. Also, if you are using wireless, try plugging an ethernet cable from your computer directly into the back of the router itself (unless you are using an iPad) - if your speed improves that might indicate a problem with the wireless component. If you are at the lake I can say that my Charter internet service at our lake cabin is about three times slower than at my home in Montgomery - and that is all the time. Charter might have throttled the bandwidth at the lake in favor of subscribers in the city because they know a good number of lake houses are intermittent users. What part of the lake are you having the problem? We are in Parker creek and service has never been as fast as they would have you believe. Addendum: My apologies if you are not at Lake Martin. I thought I was on the Lake Martin forum. If you aren't at Martin, the part of the above text that is specific to Martin won't apply.

We are in the Sturdivant area off 280 near the bridge.  I will put a password on the router and try your suggestions.  Thanks.

I just checked my Charter Internet with Speedtest.net and downloading was running at 24.74 Meg. Up loading was 6.2 Meg. Not bad considering the signal was running through WiFi to an iPad. My signal slows a little at 6 PM and at 10 PM. Use Speedtest.net anytime to check your speed...it doesn't lie.

Thanks.  My download is 19.29, upload is 3.77 and ping (whatever that is) is 73.  Guess I just have to work earlier in the day.
