A new report on the murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl reveals that U.S. officials used a forensic technique called vein analysis to corroborate the confession of the self-professed killer, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who also is suspected of planning the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the U.S.

I wonder if he will contend for the Nobel Peace Prize while at Guantanamo and join his terrorist hero Yasser Arafat, a previous winner and the originator of "suicide bombers".  Oops ! I forgot. Eric Holder and his cohorts in the administration and national media no longer use the term "terrorist" and for sure "Islamic".

I can't wait for this piece of garbage to face a military firing squad but  I'm not holding my breath waiting for this to happen. Would Obama sign the order as the CiC? I doubt it.

Of course he would.  Justify your statement that he wouldn't.

They have already made it clear they prefer to try these people out of the military legal system. And since firing squads (or any expedient form of capital punishment) doesn't exist outside of that, I think LT's supposition is more likely than not.

Just because they wouldn't put him in front of a firing squad doesn't mean that they would be unwilling to execute him.  While most people would like to see him put to death in the same way he killed Daniel Pearl, that isn't the way this country does these things.

I don't necessarily think that the accused get "better justice" under the military system vs. the civilian system.  Why do you think that the military would give better justice to a killer than the civilian system?  What proof do you have that the military would not require the same evidence, apply the same principles of law, appeals process than the civilian system.  As I understand it, there are actual pictures of this person holding Pearl's head after he was beheaded.

TH

Is it not true that one of the Guantanamo prisoners was tried under civilian rules and was only convicted on 1 of the many charges. The others were thrown out because of some technicality that is not a factor in a military tribunal. Based on this result, the civilian trial route has been dropped.

I will go one step further after the mastermind of 9/11 has been executed. Cut up his body rather than bury him and feed the hogs. Was this ever done in the Philippines with the terrorists after WWII?

Dead is dead as far as I'm concerned.

I have no idea what was done in the Phillipines.  That was a long time ago.

Yes, cases were thrown out in civilian court, but who is to say that the government could support their case against these people?  I suspect that not everyone in Guantanamo is necessarily guilty.  The government, and the military are not infallible.  We've made mistakes before.

What was thrown out of the civilian court was his confession because he was not read his Miranda rights.  We all know that jury nullification is an ongoing reality as we saw with OJ Simpson.  I think military trials are better because they eliminate or atl east significantly reduce that possibility.  But more importantly, we can hold a military trial anywhere in the world.  That is simply not the case with a civilian trial which is why the idiot AG Holder wanted to bring the guys to the U.S.  Venue alone is enough of a reason for military trials.

How about we just kill them all without a trial and let God sort them out?    Why waste the tax dollars or our military's time?

Even though your suggestion is not original thinking, it's worthy of consideration.  In a pragmatic sense, that's what war is about...destroying things and killing the enemy.  Thinking otherwise will ultimately put you on the losing side.

is that a military trial is like killing them all.......what little faith you have in the people in the military to render a just judgment.  But you seem to have ultimate faith in a legal system never designed for this purpose....trying enemy combatants.  Suit yourself but I actually think better of the men and women in our military.....but don't worry, they will still be willing to die to defend your right to malign them.

No, that is not what I am saying..... I was being sarcastic.  Can you truly not see that?  MM, you need to lighten up.  You take yourself far too seriously.  Please don't try to belittle me by wrapping yourself in the Military flag.... it's just not becoming.

Unfortunately sarcasm doesn't translate to the written page so I missed it.  My reply is withdrawn.....but I do like your suggestion!
