I am exploring the possibility of offering Boston butts and/or slabs of ribs for sale on the water at Lake Martin. I'm trying to see if there is a demand for this. Please respond and let me know what you think. Thanks.

Lablover,

If you want to do it for the labor of love, go for it.. that's what peanut point is about.. still owe them a buck fifty for peanuts last summer, forgot my money clip and still got a bag to share with grand kids.. You ain't going to make any money doing it, but I will look for you and your boat and buy.. good luck..

I'm not talking about doing this for the love of it. I'm trying to explore a legitimate BBQ business on the water. Not on a boat. I have a location I am exploring, where boats can pull up. It would not be a sit down place (other than perhaps a picnic table or two), but a place to come and take food away.

About 8 or 9 years ago, a guy sold Bar-B-Q at Parker Creek Marina. He sat up out on the point with a big smoker trailer, a small sales tent and several picnic tables outside. He would pull the trailer in from B’ham on Friday afternoon and stay until Sunday afternoon. He did very well and even had a small band that played outside occasionally. You could pull right up to the tent with a personal watercraft or dock a boat at the piers.

One night he had a pretty good crowd with the band playing but all of a sudden he could not find his son. After a frantic search, his son was found in the water and it was not good. He had evidently fell into the water and hit his head. There were no witnessed. Anyway, that was the last of the Parker Creek Bar-B-Q, understandably. It was a very sad night.

Bottom line was he did pretty well before the accident, so who knows, you might do the same. He did have the advantage that there are no places to get food in the Parker Creek / upper Willow Point areas. Veasey’s Marina sold Sho’Nuff B-B-Q several years later but only for a couple of years.

Personally i think any food business on the lake if done well, and as another person mentioned, consistently, would be successful. Yes, we like to cookout but we also like to head out for a boat ride to chuck's marina, etc.. for lunch just for the fun of it.

i have always thought that if there were some place near Real Island where you could pull up for a burger and a beer-a margarita, that it would work.

I really miss the BBQ place that used to be next to Bay Pine marina. Food was okay, but very convenient and generally consistent. We went there most weekends for lunch whenever we were out on the boat.
