Has this ever happened to you? My wife and I were coming home from Smith Station Wed night (Christmas Eve) about 11:30PM and we were not speeding (speed limit 65) we were doing about 60 just enjoying the ride back home to Lake Martin when a car in the median pulled across the road in front of us and turned yellow patrol lights on that were mounted across the truck...It scared me so I slowed down even more and as we passed he turned on his Blue lights (I always thought this was a signal ti pull over). So I pulled over... He pulled up to the rear of my vehicle and after a few seconds he annouced over his intercom...
" YOU CAN LEAVE I JUST WANTED PEOPLE TO KNOW I AM OUT HERE TONIGHT"

What da ____ was that all about? My wife and I pulled away and were shocked at what had happened....Do the police just pull people over these days to say "Hello, I am here"...? We were afraid maybe it wasnt a real cop but I am almost sure it was a camphill cop... He sounded like a white guy but, that isnt important.

...now it could have been a Sheriff's Deputy, but I have never seen one in Camp Hill.

Please, call Camp Hill PD and tell them.

Then you'll know.

...a difference.

Patrol cars do have the yellow strip of lights.

And, if it was Camp Hill and you didn't get a ticket (it doesn't matter if you were speeding or not...been there, got that ticket anyway)...

...then count your blessings and drive on.

Depends on where we are talking about. If on US Hwy 280, no they do not have authority to do that or write a ticket.
That bs ended when Gov. Wallaces' aide was pulled over in a Waverly speed trap.

FRom the Camp Hill Police, they told me one speed and wrote a different speed on the ticket. When I asked about the difference and asked if I could see the radar for myself, he got mad and told me that I better not get out of the car. My lawyer called them and got the run around. He asked about the little school you can go to where the ticket will not show up on your record, But only in Camp Hill not only do you have to go to school but you also have to complete 8 hours of community service to get it off your record.

I told them I would rather pay the ticket than give them any kind of community service. The only town in Alabama that requires this. Sounds like what Jacksons Gap police used to do years ago.

You might want to look at Attorney General Opinion 2004-61 before you challenge a municipal law enforcement officer's authority to issue a traffic citation on a state, county, or municipal roadway. Senator Barron caused all municipalities with a population less than 19,000 to not enforce speed limits on Interstate Highways because of some personal problems he had (and still has) with driving in excess of the speed limit. The AGO opinion is available at http://www.ago.alabama.gov/pdfopinions/2004-061.pdf
