Not to mention the perks that go with the job. I didn't think the retired Presidents made quite that much, because I believe that the POTUS only makes $400K a year. But, anything is possible. And of course, the Presidents and their wives have Secret Service protection for life.

What you have stated is incorrect: Members of Congress are not eligible for a pension until they reach the age of 50, but only if they've completed 20 years of service. Members are eligible at any age after completing 25 years of service or after they reach the age of 62. Please also note that Members of Congress have to serve at least 5 years to even receive a pension. The amount of a congressperson's pension depends on the years of service and the average of the highest 3 years of his or her salary. By law, the starting amount of a Member's retirement annuity may not exceed 80% of his or her final salary. According to the Congressional Research Service, 413 retired Members of Congress were receiving federal pensions based fully or in part on their congressional service as of Oct. 1, 2006. Of this number, 290 had retired under CSRS and were receiving an average annual pension of $60,972. A total of 123 Members had retired with service under both CSRS and FERS or with service under FERS only. Their average annual pension was $35,952 in 2006.

And this link will provide information about the retirement benefit of the President. So, WW, I'm not sure where you got your information. One disturbing thing I did read lately that I know to be true. That many federal employees are promoted to a higher grade without taking on a new job or more responsibility. I know in the DoD, there were plenty of "Special Assistants" (or Spec Asses, as I liked to call them) who are appointed to the Senior Executive Service, without even having a "real" job. Political appointees love their Spec Asses and it is one way that they reward "loyalty". I personally would love the government to get rid of the vast number of political appointees. They are at all levels and pay grades. They usually come into government service with only a vague idea of how government works, and by the time they figure it out, they are out the door so they can "make some real money".

Hey WaterBoy, your inability to distinquish between facts and myths is amazing. To help you appear smarter, may I suggest you verify the right wing myths that you post BEFORE you post as you appear to assume that all right wing posts are facts.

I could be wrong, but recently someone told me they only get secret service protection for 10 years now.

Thanks for the advice liar.   Glad to see you continue to read the posts as you hind from the shame of what you supported.

I have no problem making a mistake and admitting it ... more than you have ever been able to do ... or your shameful president Oblamer.

Latest poll ... both Cain and Romney beat Obama.

Now go back to sticking your head in the sand from the shameful results of your party ... and you can not even admit you made a mistake and the policies have failed.

You are so sad.
