I've heard that even if you're replacing decking and they catch you, they want their $250.00. Power company needs money too.

You will need to apply and get a permit but if you are replacing an existing pier in the same "footprint", then you will not have to pay the fee...unless the rule has been changed within the last two years...

I checked last winter and rebuilding my 8 x 12 floating dock was okay by Al Power, no permit required.  I just replaced the rotted top, frame, and joists.  Kept the legal floatation.

Someone came by to take a few photos during the process, so my neighbor told me.  Don't know for sure who it was.

If all you are doing is replacing the existing rotten wood, etc., no you do not need the permit.

I am redecking my existing deck and replacing the floater had to get a $250 permit. No changes. I just did this last week.
