The article at the URL below tells of a former Marine who is being detained against his will for psychiatric evaluation because of ominous posts on line regarding revolution, "chopping heads" and so forth. The hue and cry is that his First Amendment rights are being violated.
Yet there are "couldn't anyone see this coming?" questions around other mass shootings like that at the Batman movie.
I wonder if there is any way to clearly discriminate between a truly dangerous loon and someone simply exercising his or her First Amendment rights. Where do we draw the line?

I think this is one of those chicken and egg questions - and if there is a psych eval that does not predict an act that occurs, do we send the analyst to the brig? The bigger picture of course is that of the preemptive strikes that we engage in on overseas targets - same concept.
