Wow that is amazing ... written over 100 years ago ... now if he said over 200 years ago I could give him a pass.  laughing that it has no binding power and it is a gimmick ...

I guess as the current administration wants to ignor it, i guess it is a gimmick to those that support their beliefs.   I for one think it is an outstanding idea to remind the new congress what they are their to support.  It should be done with every new congress.

I actually read his blog.  It didn't say it isn't any good.  I actually thought it was very thoughtful and on target.  But, he did not say it isn't any good -- he said it isn't that helpful in dealing with the issues confronting our country today -- since our country was much smaller and the times were much different when it was written.  He didn't suggest abandoning it.

I have pondered how the Founding Fathers might have constructed the Constituition if they were writing it today.  Frankly,  since they were some of the most forward thinking people of their day, they'd probably want to rewrite it.

I agree they were forward thinking ... but not sure they would want it rewritten.  If anything they would want to be sure the federal government had less power over the people and th states had more.  Just read some of what Jefferson warned of that is very relavant today.

Regardless ... happy New Year ... hoping it brings all good things to all.   Off to start getting ready.

What, specifically, would they re-write?

Well, I wonder if they wouldn't put something in about how we should deal with the rest of the world.  I definitely think they would have some words about being a "super power" and the use of our military.
I think they would have addressed the issue of health care.  And I'm sure they would have said something about those who threaten our national security.  And maybe immigration.

I don't really know.  Just given that they were visionary, and forward thinking -- particularly Jefferson -- that they would be compelled to address some of the issues of the day.  Just thinking about the innovations that he put into his own home, and the variety of his interests and inventions, I think he would have had quite a bit more guidance up his sleeve.
