When we bought our place 3 years ago, the older of the two floating docks was already getting some serious age on it. If we're lucky we might be able to coax another year, maybe two out of it. It has old styrofoam floats. I'm starting to think about budgeting for a replacement that meets current standards, which I take to mean encapsulated polystyrene floats, YellaWood or other treated pine, etc. In round figures, what should I budget to replace a 12x15 floating dock with a quality replacement (assuming there's anything for it to float on, which I have to assume and hope for...)

Might want to check out the classifieds on this site. There is a dock section with new and used docks. Looks like around $5K for the size you describe.

Jim,

You may want to check into a steel frame. Steel will hold up 10 times better than wodden frames.

If it is a do it yourself project you should be able to build it for less than $2500.

Ask Lake Martin Dock Co. to be sure. As long as you're reworking that, check out the poles to which the floater is attached. Better be sure that they are twice as sturdy as they need to be, it would stink to have a brand new dock be ruined by your poles coming loose or otherwise allowing it to become damaged.
