In 1800 , after a hard fought election Thomas Jefferson defeated Aaron Burr for the presedency. Despondent Burr entered a number of shady deals and was eventually arrested and charged for treason. Could, as George Santayana said: "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeate it."
