very good question... just cleaned 8 fat females less than 2 hours (5/06) outta the lake.. Not shallow, in 6 - 8 feet on jigs.. The roe did not look like it was ripe to my novice eye.. Was a math major in school, so a smart fish guy's comment would be appreciated..

Roe was probably forming for the fall spawn. Not a big spawn, but they do spawn again in October or so.
