So all we have been hearing from the govt media is gloom and doom for the GOP in 2018.  And in fact that may happen as there is no doubt the #resistance is energized from their TDS.  A number of changes to the landscape that may impact the results.  First, DNC fundraising has been abysmal.  They lag way behind the GOP and actually owe more than they have cash on hand.  GOP is over $40M to the good.  Second, the generic ballot has wildly favored Dems for the entire year but has now tightened to within the margin of error.  Third, the tax overhaul is becoming more popular and once people see those raises, bonus checks, more in their take home, etc. it will be even more so.  Fourth, Dems don't seem to have anything to offer except their TDS.  Fifth, for the first time ever and despite the biased media coverage, the potential govt shutdown is being blamed on the Dems.  Sixth, the growth in IRA and 401K values has not gone unnoticed...stipulating that a correction between now and November could eliminate this advantage.

As of today my guess is the Democrats will regain control of the House but not the Senate.  They will then waste everyone's time pursuing impeachment which will fail in the Senate and in 2020 they will again be wiped out.  As I said after he was elected, it remains to be seen whether Trump will do to the GOP what Obama did to the Democrat party on a national, state and local level.  That is still a very real possibility........

Being as you put it out there I'll thow my 2 cents in. I believe barring an economic anomaly before November the GOP will add seats in the senate and house. Even with the MSM reporting at 90% negative they are asking the public to believe what I say not your lying eyes and wallets, it'sjust not working. The fact is that Trump did a masterful job backing the Dems into a corner last night and it was apparent to even the Independents according to the polls. They looked like they were not interested in working for America, they hurt their cause.

Hope you're right but I am still skeptical.  Especially when you see all the GOP members that are retiring.  We lose the advantage of incumbency and it seems to me that the energy is on the side of the #resistance and not the GOP.  I am hopeful that the tax law will energize people as they realize this obviously would have never happened otherwise.  And as always, it will depend a lot on the quality of GOP candidates that seek to replace the retiring incumbent.  Roy Moore's will be disastrous.

That would be an unfortunate mistake if the voters made him the nominee......fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

I think a lot depends on what happens between now and then.  If the economy keeps looking up, then I don't see the big sweep that Democrats seem so sure of.  Despite all of their predictions about the negative impact  that Trump is having overseas, that doesn't really seem to the be the case.  And you know that Kim Jung Un would be the same, no matter who was in office here.  I think that Trump is really striking a good note about infrastructure, because unlike the Wall, it is something that Americans can actually see and feel the impact of.

Of course, as someone else pointed out, a lot rides on who actually runs.

I believe that Flyfisher is right - that our man Moore will attempt to run for Governor.  He seems hellbent on a political career again.

Truly amazing to me how many otherwise intelligent people have made Roy Moore into a villain. Has any of his misconduct been charged or in any way persued after the election? No. Have any of the charges made by women, and their well payed lawyers, been brought to court? No. Has he been arrested? No. Why the Hell not??

He was obviously guilty. The DNC said so. The media plastered it on the screen every day. Guilty, guilty. Dropped flat the day after election.

He was not the ideal candidate for Senator. He did not present the required "Senatorial" image, and he talked "funny". But,I voted for him, because I refused to allow the DNC, the Liberal Media and the RINO leadership of the Republican Party to choose for me.

He was the better candidate for the GOP, and they (we) will probably regret his defeat as Mr. Jones huddles close with his benefactors on the left side.

Mack!

I voted for Moore because there was no alternative. My resevations had nothing to do with the charges against him it was his public statements. He seems completely out of touch, uninformed and mabe a little adled definatly not the best we have to put up fpor public office. I think the more he is put in front of a camera he deminishes himself and any legacy he has to this point. My point is I think he is unelectable. If he were applying for a job in management for any private sector job he wouldn't get a second interview.

Mack, I think the problem with Moore, regardless of the merit of the accusations, is damaged goods politically which is the one and only reason he lost.  And while I agree that many of the accusations lacked any credibility, he sadly is being held to today's standards for acceptable behavior and while that may not seem fair it is the way of the world these days.  I can assure you if I were an Alabama voter I would have held my nose and voted for him.  But if these allegations were in the public domain during the primary I would have probably held my nose and voted for Strange.......not because I think the GOP needs another RINO but because America did not need another Democrat Senator.  I just hope in 2020 the GOP puts up a strong, conservative, articulate candidate against Jones so we can get the seat back.

Here's my take on the 2018/2020 elections. I think in the next couple of months Jeff Sessions will setdown from the AG and Trey Gowdy will be nominated to assume the position of AG. Sessions will then announce he will be running for Doug Jones' set in 2020. I think that would solve a lot of the GOP's problems.

Hope you are right.  I agree he is unelectable, but has that stopped him before?  The man is out of touch.

But after all that has gone on with Sessions recusing himself from the Mueller witch hunt, how will that play with the base.  I agree with you in the long term, I think Sessions is doomed as the head of Justice, and Gowdy will need a job.
