The bill, with 9000 (+/-) pork projects, is on the way to the President Obama's desk for signing into law.. A commitment my grandkids will bear.. It took just 9 GOP senators to vote "aye', given the 3 Democratic Senators that voted 'ney'.. One of the 'aye' votes was Senator Richard Shelby, Alabama.. I'm disappointed and will certainly remember it the next time he's up for reelection..

If you look into the past you will see that Shelby never never never votes for a spending bill that does not grant at least a 10 to one advantage for Alabama. I have not read the bill but I am certain that Shelby's vote will be good for Alabama.

The new tanker that could be built in Mobile is under consideration by the DOD and the White House to be delayed for 5 to 10 years. Shelby has probably by his aye vote on this bill assured that some other project will be delayed and the tanker will be built IN ALABAMA.

SHELBY IS MOST LIKELY NOW THE MOST POWERFUL MAN IN WASHINGTON. THIS FACT WILL GREATLY BENEFIT OUR STATE.

and btw he follows in a long line of such powerful senators from the South and this state in particular.

Interestingly enough begining with Lister Hill all of those senators were products of "THE MACHINE" at the University of Alabama.

Have to disagree with you on this one. Not about Shelby ... but rather that pork is ok as long as it benefits the state the represenattive or senator is from. I think every piece of pork that is added to a bill can be justified this way. The republicans need to start setting and example and saying no.

Projects that are worthy of funding should justified on their own.

I don't question Senator Shelby's power. Not saying He's corrupt, but there is an old saying about 'power corrupting, absolute power corrupting absolutely.' I firmly believe that the quest of power is a dynamic that drives both houses of Congress. Much more so than principled commitment to doing the right thing.. As I recall, Senator Shelby switched parties in 1994 to join a powerful, newly elected GOP majority.. Wonder how long he will hang with the Republican party now.. A powerful committee chair could be in play..

.... when it comes to politicians, term limits, and abuse of power. When most folks area asked their opinion of 'congress' it is very low, but then ask them about THEIR congressman or senator and you get "oh no, MY guy is great, it's all the others that ruining things". Therefore, incumbents are continuously re-elected. The pols know this too. That is why they do the things they do, like voting for porkulous bills.

they already took the money. Alabama has been able to get more back that they send every year since the Civil War.

In 2006 the last year I have seen numbers for, Alabama got over ten dollars from the feds for every dollar that the feds collected from Alabamians.

That was the best in the nation. NUMBER 1 WE'RE NUMBER 1

Why are we complaining.

It seems like the central government is taking money from other states and giving it to Alabama. Isn't that redistribution of the wealth?

We haved to rethink this folks.. If Senator Shelby and the Federal government are going to pump this much money into the State, we are on to something.. Pay my mortgage, put food on the table (partial to steak), take care of truck gas, utilities and give me a cash tax refund??. Hey, no need to go to work tomorrow, I'm going to file for unemployment compensation.. Why did I not put more faith in "hope and change?" I must reevaluate life tomorrow, while watching TV on my government paid for digital converter box.. Life is good...
