Just went online and they are reporting an outage in the area and are saying up to 24 hours to repair. I wonder is it related to the spam phone calls I kept getting yesterday. An 800# called every ten minutes or so till I answered it and then it was some bogus offer to go to a website to claim my $63 prize to be credited to my bill. Knew it was bogus because I am straight talk, not a Verizon customer.

My wife and I have Straight talk and got three of the same calls. Would be interesting to know if the calls came only to ST or did it involve Verizon customers as well. Anyone with Real Verizon have the same calls?

Wireless service providers are scrambling to resolve an issue that has seen most phone and Internet customers without service since the early Wednesday morning.

Customer service representatives are giving conflicting reports on an issue that has left many in the immediate Alexander City area without cell phone, Internet or land line service.

According to Verizon Wireless customer service representatives, since 9:29 a.m. some 25 cell tower sites were not working. Verizon customer service said that AT&T reported a cable failure and that the issue is currently being resolved.

According to T-Mobile customer service, an outage in the area of Alexander City and Goodwater has caused a loss of voice and data service. T-Mobile customer service expected the issue to be resolved in two hours and said Windstream Communications and AT&T are working to resolve the issue.

The T-Mobile engineering department is also working on a solution.

AT&T customer service reported that every tower in the area located near Main Street in Alexander City is “severely degraded,” a term used when a tower is down. AT&T customer service said some five to six towers in the area near Main Street are down, affecting an area of five to six miles in any direction. AT&T is working to resolve the issue, but there is no estimate for when the issue will be resolved.

Due to a widespread network outage currently affecting the Lake Martin Area, the Alexander City Police Department is re-routing 9-1-1 calls through an office in Talladega.
Chief Willie G. Robinson said a dispatcher has been sent to the office to take care of local calls.
“Any 9-1-1 calls will be linked back to us, and we are going to make sure it is taken care of,” Robinson said.
Robinson said the officers Southern Linc devices and in-car radios have not been affected and are still operational.
More officers have been called in to patrol, Robinson said, during the duration of the outage.
