I wonder how much gas will be this year on the lake. Do the masses on the lake buy at the gas docks or do they fill-up gas jugs @ the area country stores? These stores really benefit from the marina prices being
"skyhigh".

I cannot believe that people that have these 300,00+ dollar retreats on the Lake Martin worry about the price of fuel when they fillup there high dollar vessels. I see people get their 5 gallon gas cans out and, load them up in CAR, go down to 49 & 34, fill them up, take them back to the house, struggle to get them to the dock, spill gas in the lake in the process to fill the vessel . Should be a law against this practice. Forget about catching any fish for a while after your neighbor does this.

If you use common sense be responsible and use the right equipment gas does not go in the lake. Have you seen the gas film on the water around
a gas dock at a marina. I refuse to pay 2.50 or 3.00 a gallon at a marina.
I don't care how much money you got..

I have been a witness to this, a lot of folks do not care. People that do this do not belong on the Lake Martin or any other Lake. Should go back to the trailer park.

You would be very surprised to know just exactly how much marinas 'make' on a gallon of gas - after paying for insurance for environmental hazards, Road Taxes (for off-the-road use!), etc.. In our case, the insurance alone is more than $30,000 per year! That has to be spread among gallons of gas that we sell over a 4-5 month seasonal period. Our gas has never been more than $2.19 for 89 octane. Go figure! We make much more selling ice, ice cream & candy than we do on gas. I guess they haven't has a sugar or beer environmental incident, yet!
Carrying gas in 5 gallon cans to your boat is the surest way I know to introduce water into your fuel tank and have lots of engine problems.
Just remember, any spill on the lake that produces a film greater than 4 square feet (2' x 2') is, under EPA rules, an 'Environmental incident'. Failure to report such an event to the EPA, the Coast Guard and ADEM commands a $5,000 fine for the first offense.

On well I will continue saving 50 cent a gallon. I have never had a problem with water in the gas. Over the last 20 years.
Hey if you run three waverunners and a ski boat over a long weekend thats a big savings. I don't care who you are. Again you got to have the right equipment . We don't spill gas in our LAKE.

..i wish there was a place to buy gas on the lake..im at stillwaters marina requiring 30gal to fill up..sw pumps closed,blue creek i cant get in,chucks closed for the winter,the ridge requires a quarter tank of gas to get there and back,much less being closed on the weekend and the self pumps on a working basis is a gamble..carrying a 5gal can 6 times for 500yds round trip is out of the question..sometimes life is tough in this beautiful slice of tranquility...

Just think of the opportunities availed to the dock boys and girls if that money saved had gone to well-earned tips!! I like to think that it is just
a small way to support our summer Lake Martin youth!!

I guess now that anyone seen with a 5 gallon gas can is a low life environmental hazard. Now everyone on the lake with a vessell other than a pontoon is trash in your weak minds. I agree that we should ALL take care of OUR lake. Those outboard motors on your pontoon boat deposits more gas, oil and smoke on or in the lake than most anything else. If you haul gas in cans, simply use the right equipment and act senceably.

Got where I am today by saving 50 cents here and there. People think Im rich because of my toys. The honest truth is I buy other peoples discards and repair them. They are the rich ones. Got my lake house on a forclosed deal. Bought a Mastercraft when some guy didnt winterize it right. Yea I repaired it. Sewed the new interior my self. Bought wave runners in the middle of the winter when a few people were dying to get rid of them. A real great guy gave me a rowing skull so I can keep my fat but in shape with all the beer drinking in the summer.
BIG POINT.
I do spend lots of money at C-Toms, and Chucks and at the local hardware stores and in towne gas stations and with local people to repair my auto and repair the car when my wife backs it into the garage door. (had to throw that one in). Since this is where "the real prophit is" I dont feel bad about toting 5 gallon jugs down 60 stairs to fill up the toys. Yea...I do use good stuff so as not to spill into the water I swim in.
I do have one other thought. If no fish will be around if I spill maybe that will stop the nipple biting monsters from the relentless attacks on only me. I must taste good. Na Ill still be responsible.

Our place is back in Sandy creek area where there are no marinas. We have carried gas in 5 gal cans for 6 years without a problem. I would be happy to go to a marina if one was near me.
