Does anyone have any new pictures of the lake over 487? I was planning on coming down this weekend but my hubby is having back surgery tomorrow, darn him. I told him he should've had it done in Feb (just kidding). But I'd love a new picture if anyone can upload. I really miss the lake. I've been coming down every year since I was born (67) and my dad remembers when they beginning to fill the lake (27).

John Edge's Web page has lots of recent pictures. There is a link in the Edge post under "Did you see the snow?" from 3/08/2008 lower in the thread on page 1 of the forum list. I was down this weekend, it looks great in my part of the lake (near Real Island).

I heard about it, but didn't see it. I am north of Real Island. I pulled one about 25' long from under my boat house last weekend. It is amazing the amount of driftwood, etc. in the lake.

Sorry, guess that was confusing. He was born in 27, but he talks a lot about when they built the lake. I know the dam was built in 23(?) but didn't it take a long time for it to fill up. So that would also make him 40 when I was born. He also had one in college at the time and his youngest was 12. He says that I' ve kept him young. I'll take his word for it!

Constuction didn't finish until 26 and the filling took a bout a year after that. But considring how much fluctuation ( as much as 50 ft at times) was involed back then it is very conceivable that a child could have seen it as the initial filling.

No...but I remember him. My dad grew up in Roanoke but used to visit his Uncle Thomas. My cousins live down there full time and dad's place is across the way.
