Have you seen the latest cover of Lake Magazine.

I know some of you will disagree with me,but, glorifying the killing of animals (especially large, perhaps endangered, species) turns my stomach.

So you could kill a large dangerous animal with a high powered rifle -- big deal. Hardly a fair fight. What does that prove? Now if he killed that Nile crocodile with only a knife I would be impressed. I just think it is an arcane way to try to prove your manhood. Pathetic frankly!

On the contrary, I eat meat quite frequently.

However, I feel there is a distinction from killing animals (for food) whose entire existence was for that purpose, and killing just for the sake of killing.

Doesn't it seem kind of strange (to say the least) to have dead animals adorning your walls and floors.

The stuffed animals in this home were killed only for sport and ego, not for sustinence.

I can promise you that very little of those "African Game" animals went to waste. The meat, hide, and other useful items those animals provide are usually distrubuted to different tribes.

read the article - nothing is wasted and the African economy is helped by this activity. Just so you will know - i have been on an African safari in Kenya where hunting is not permitted and i have many beautiful memories and photos from this trip. I would never be interested in such hunting but I do not judge people that are.

Ignorance is bliss! "Safaries" and the hunting and killing of whatever beast is taken not only benifits the local population with food, hides and such but also with EMPLOYMENT. The main reason that elephants have now overpopulated some areas and are having to be thinned out more is because the locals have finally realized that they have a better future by taking care of the wildlife instead of poaching them out of existence! Hunting is regulated, poaching ain't!!!!

Could you tell us more about your trip. It sounds very interesting. Were you able to play any golf while in Africa?

It was really a great trip - I was on a mission with my church and we helped build a health clinic, treated over 1200 persons in a temporary clinic, held a vacation bible school and various other works. We were in the town of Eldoret which has about 250,000 people. Those we had contact with would probably say we were a blessing to them but they showed us more about life and living in two weeks than I have ever learned here in the states. We were the ones that were truly blessed.

The safari was a treat at the end of the trip. The pastor and I thought about playing a round but we never could work ti into the schedule.

My church (FUMC Sylacauga) is the home church of a couple that is serving as missionaries in Ghana which is in West Africa. We have had groups go there several times from our church and they all said the same thing you said. The lessons they learned from the people there were unbelievable. Obviously the work the did while there and the medicine they took with them made a huge impact to that area but they all said you can't put a dollar figure on what they learned there. I hope to be able to go some day.

I know an immigrant from Ghana in Atlanta. He is a good man and wonderful to talk with about what it means to be 'American' and what life is like in Africa, and especially Ghana.
