The first shot against freedom of the press. Does it remind you of Chavez in Venezuela?

NPR Fires Juan Williams for Muslim Comments on Fox

Juan Williams, a well-known political pundit and author, was fired by National Public Radio late Wednesday after he said on Fox News that he was often nervous when boarding a plane with people who are dressed in "Muslim garb," according to The New York Times. NPR said in a statement it had given Williams notice of his termination Wednesday night.

Williams, who is also a Fox News political analyst, appeared on the “The O’Reilly Factor” on Monday. The show’s host, Bill O’Reilly, asked him whether the United States was facing a “Muslim dilemma.”

“The cold truth is that in the world today jihad, aided and abetted by some Muslim nations, is the biggest threat on the planet,” O’Reilly said.
Williams then said he agreed with O’Reilly.

“I mean, look, Bill, I’m not a bigot,” Williams added. “You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”

NPR has long been concerned with appearances by its staffers on Fox News. Williams’s contributions on Fox raised eyebrows at NPR in the past, according to the Times. In February 2009, NPR said it had asked that he stop being identified on “The O’Reilly Factor” as a “senior correspondent for NPR,” even though that title was accurate.

Wow ... he was a liberal that I actually respected.  At least he supported his position ... even if I did not agree, he backed his thoughts and comments and I will always respect that vs attacks because someone has a different view.

He will be better off without NPR .... Fox will put him in some roll and it will just add to Fox's rating lead over every liberal media.  MSNBC came out that emphasizing they are left leaning and their ratings have fallen further from a dismal level.  Way to go ....

One of the top news web sites is MSN and they commonly linked to MSNBC .... they are seeing their hits drop as well and have started to link to other media sources ... they are run independently and are trying to distant themselves from their sister.

I find it interesting that he would get nervous about people in Muslim garb.  I worry more about those who appear to be Middle Eastern and dressed in Western garb.

But, I don't think he should be fired for saying what he did.  I'm sure a lot of people feel exactly as he does.  He only gave voice to what a lot of people feel.

Okay, Juan Williams stated the obvious and was canned for it.  Obvious?  Which of you does NOT have that tinge of doubt when you see the Muslim version of the Kinte Cloth on a plane?  I have it.  And then, I quietly sit down and plan on “..okay, let’s roll.”  (Sheepdogs will know what that means.)

NPR -- yet ANOTHER taxpayer provided subsidy that has long outlived it's original purpose.

A very lame excuse for firing him.

As the truth comes out, it is very clear he was canned because he frequently appeared on FOX, even though he would take the liberal position as FOX always is fair and balanced to offer both points of view.

NPR asked him to stop having FOX say he was with NPR (even though he was) .... they must have been afraid it may tarnish their liberal bias.   When that did not work, they looked for something and used this to get rid of him since he must not have been liberal enough if he would appear on FOX.

You would think with FOX great ratings, they would have been excited to have all the viewers educated on the liberal agenda and how great it is working ... or maybe will someday.   :)
