But who would have thought it would be about pot?!?!? So the states of Washington and Colorado passed laws in direct violation of Federal law. This is going to be interesting on several fronts: First, with the Justice Dept. actually not enforce federal drug laws in these two states, especially since in Washington their liquor control board will be the controlling agency? Of course, we know Holder and company would go after them if they had the temerity to actually pass state laws to enforce federal on an issue like say, illegal immigration but who knows on this one. Second, it will be interesting to see if the level of crime, vagrancy, government dependence, etc, increases in these two states as a result of the mass influx of potheads that will relocate there. Anyone who has been to Amsterdam can attest to the wasted lives slowly frying their brains and being a leech on society as they puff their way into a semi-comatose state. Third, I am somewhat ambivalent about this because I believe in Federalism and if states want to do something that is destructive to their citizens, whether it is to legalize pot or raise taxes or whatever I think they should have at it. As for me, I would never live in either state because I know who will ultimately pay the price as they are flooded with potheads on welfare and food stamps because they can't hold a decent job. Of course there are limits to Federalism but I am not sure this one falls into that category regardless of how stupid and destructive it will be for them. Oh and the canard that it will eliminate illegal pot sales is a total joke. The dealers will price their product under the government sold and taxed product which will be easier because they are a private business and will be much more efficient and tax free. Oh the delusions of the left.......

And Alabama voters approved an Amendment to the Alabama Constitution that says folks don't HAVE to buy health insurance.  If CO and WA win, then the Alabama Constitution should prevail as well.

I just got back from Amsterdam (business/pleasure) and have been many times.  First thing you notice is alcohol and pot are not sold in the same establishment.  Somehow that law makes sense to somebody.   Since pot is legal, the authorities turn a blind eye to many other drugs.  Street sellers are on every corner in the red light district trying to sell you crack, cocaine, heroin or whatever.  Prostitutes complete with track marks and runny noses will offer you sex for dope or money.  People urinate on the streets and I assume it helps wash away all the dog feces.  You hear an ambulance about every 5 minutes on the way to pick up another overdose patient who has travelled there to experiment and found their limit the hard way.  There is much conflict between the tax payers and the business owners that sell the dope because of the overhead involved with all the required public services.

I agree with live and let live.... but.....it will be very interesting to see how this all unfolds.

P.S. Oh, and California also voted in a new law to make porno actors wear condoms.  We can sleep well now knowing they are protected.  The government inspectors can show up at porn shoots to make sure they have gloves and condoms on.  I bet Joe Biden would be good at that.  He strikes me as the type.

Unlike CO and WA, Alabama did not support the reelection. I can see another Wallace stand at the insurnce agency door when the Federal Marshals appear and force the insurance agent to accept the premium, while in CO and WA, the potheads are smoking and mocking Alabama. Jerry Garcia must be looking down and smiling.

You are probably right.  Problem is that if enforced it will mostly hurt the very ones OBSer claims it will help - those who can't afford it.  Instead of having the insured support the less fortunate's ER visits for routine care through exorbitant rates (e.g., $750 for a plastic bag of sterile salt water), the less fortunate will either have to buy the insurance they can't afford or face a fine they can't afford either.

Maybe I should start a health insurance business that charges maybe $50/month for coverage that had $1,000,000,000 annual deductibles and $100,000,000 copays.  Then the less fortunate could avoid the fine by claiming they had my health insurance and I would get rich.
