I just read in the December issue of "Southern Living" where The Wellborn Muscle Car Museum will be opening in Alex City next month.

Many of us have noticed the nice collection of classic cars going in where High Cottons Antiques used to be.

If anyone hears of an exact opening date and admission price, please let us know.

The below link should "wet the whistle".

Looks Chrysler product heavy. Google also provided a couple of other links including an Alex City Outlook article stating it would not open until the Spring of 2010.

I'll have to check this out, I always loved the old pendastar muscle, owned a few in the day as well. There are several Superbirds and Daytona Chargers there, they're worth a bundle...
This link is for my nephew, he is a mopar nut. He grew up on the dukes of hazard and plenty of rides in my Charger.

Tim Wellborn has probably the best and largest collection of HEMI cars in the southeast. Many are very, very low mileage original cars.

...but still very, very cool! I had a '62 Bel Air bubble back coupe. 409, 2x4, 4 speed, Don Nicholson factory header package and a 456 rear end. Pretty good in a straight line. I would love to go see a Chevy & Corvette museum if there is one.

I bought a 63 1/2 Ford Fastback with a 427 with 2x4 barrels and solid lifters.
No air as it reved too high. Dealer let me order it for $50 over his cost and I paid $3,250. I used to get 8 miles/gallons. Those solid lifters sure sounded great. I was living in Atlanta at the time and used to take it cruising to the Varsity. Phil Bonner was my man at that time with his 427.

In those days the manufacturer had to sell 500 cars with the same engine they were going to race on NASCAR tracks to qualify the engine. Far different from today.

I remember the Mercury team that used the same engine as the Ford was located across from the Varsity. The owner was Bill Stroppe and his drivers included Parnelli Jones. The cars were blue and orange and I hung out there picking up stuff and cleaning up for free.

Those were the days.

...are blowing me away. Of course I remember Phil Bonner. The Chevy nemesis. Remember the drags at the Covington drag strip? I have had many a chili dog and NIPC at the Varsity too. We did the car hop thing with our dates after the dances - since we were such big spenders - and cruised the upper deck first just to impress the folks with our Duntov cams idling through the parking lot. HA! I'll bet you remember all that! Maybe you went to the Big Beat Hop hosted by Paul Drew at the YWCA and made a dedication on WGST....LOL!!!! OK Now you are going to tell me that you went to Jennings Rose Room! How about the Royal Peacock?

I was into Lakewood and NASCAR at the time. Went to Covington a few times. I remember Royal Peacock and Pascals. Wifey and I were only white people in Pascals on many nights and were treated like royalty with front row seats. I remeber going to Mammy Shanty whre they put smudge pots under your seat to keep you warm. The waiters were black boys with the menus around their neck. They used to recite it.

Used to drive into the Varsity and blip the engine a few times go up the ramp do the same and come down and out onto I85. Off next exit and down I believe Spring St and back in. Then I would all go in and when I came back out the hood was usually open with guys just looking at the 427. I remeber the guys throwing a number on your hood so they could wait on you at the Varsity. We still have one of them somewehre here. Nipsy Russell the comdedian used to be a waiter there.

I remeber dancing at the Egyptian room over the Fox theater.
