Sad to hear. I thought Christopher's was only renting the old Cove location.

If so, the question then becomes what will it do to the restaurant vs. ownership of the facitlity. Possibly the bank or loan institution will allow the tenant to remain. ???

I love that place. Rack of Lamb, Sunday brunch, Sunday Seafood and Prime Rib Buffet...... Much better, for the price than Springhouse, and on my side of the lake. I guess I am on the wrong side of the "tracks" for this type of establishment.

Why is everyone surprised when a restaurant around the lake closes? There is simply not enough business to support these places. The only ones that survive are the established places like Oscar's. Could you imagine trying to run a place selling food at an average price of $10 to $12 a plate and making only $2 to $3 a plate profit or $.50 - $.75 profit on a beer. You need huge volume to make a living and the volume is just not there on the lake year round.

Not surprised at all. Just disappointed. By the way, at Christopher's, for $10- $12 all you get is an appetizer. Their entrees are $20 to $35 so, in addition to not having the volume at the lake, I'm sure most locals won't pay the price. Makes me wonder what kind of market research they did prior to opening. Anyway, I loved the place and hate to hear it's closing but, can certainly understand it.

In my opinion, you could'nt have said it better. When I am around the lake in the off season (such as now), there is a calm, quite atmosphere. Almost like going to the beach in January. The road traffic is slow, and the lake area returns, or seems to return to a small town rural community/communities. Yea, I know there are 400k homes around the corner, but no-ones home. Kinda like I invision the Lake "Back then" as some longtimers refer too. Well, thats just the way it is, and I agree offseason survival probably depends how much $$$ you stuck back. (Kinda like the squirals and chipmonks do). Or, how you conducted business and built/earned trust and confidence with customers so that they would come to you regaurdless every chance they had. I also see how one could get caught-up in the Summer season and want to get right in the middle of things and build or create a business. Myself included! All of you told me NO. And many do fail. I see the lake as a seasonal place for the public majority. The masses will return in Springtime, and the cycle will continue. This is my .02 worth!

The Fall and winter do have their own kind of feel to them. There is a peacefulness that is different than the season.

But, having said that, I'm sorry to see Christopher's go. We probably would have gone more often if it was located on our side of the lake (Parker Creek). For the quality of what they are serving, I don't think their prices were bad -- but then, when you look at the places that survive, you can see what the locals are willing to support. I'm not thrilled with Springhouse. The food is underwhelming and it's got more pretentions than I think it needs to have.

I am not the most traveled person these days. But I'm sure the "locals" there say the same things about prices. To make it thru the long off season we have, prices have to be up.
I really hope Christopher can get the building or make a good arrangement with new owners. I consider him a plus for our area.

Christophers will not be closing... unless THEY choose to. Everything is not always as clear as it appears... :)
