It appears that the Administration has entered the discussion. Time will tell where it goes.
I read an article today that some Drs. have come out against the recommendations. One Dr. on TV today said that it would be fine as long any cost savings goes into breast cancer research.
One interesting comment I heard from a commentator today -- (summarizing) we don't get upset when the recommendation is to only do colon screenings at age 50. Why is this any different?
Something to think about.

Hmmm... I have never heard of anyone getting colon cancer before age fifty. Not, that it doesn't happen. Yet I KNOW of two young women who died of breast cancer in their thirties.
I don't think that there is much of a similarity between detection and onset of these two cancers.
I wish some qualified medical folks would jump into this discussion.

General recommendations suggest that age 50 is when you should consider having a screening colonscopy performed, unless you have a family history of colon cancer, or other factors to consider.
Hound suggested a correlation between mammograms and colonscopies as her obvious defense of the hallowed one, but that dog won't hunt.

The incidence of breast cancer increases with age. Women over 50 have a much higer incidence of breast cancer. I don't have time right now, but I will try to find the statistics about it.
You are pointing out antedotal cases once again. Yes, I know a woman who got inflammatory breast cancer at age 26. She died last year at age 40. I know another woman who got inflammatory breast cancer at age 55 and she is a nine year survivor. The statics for IBC is only 20% have a 5 year survival rate.
Last year, my sister got breast cancer at age 44. She had a mammogram which showed something. Well, the thing the mammogram showed was nothing, but the MRI she had showed something else. The chances of finding a breast cancer via MRI are about 1 in 500.
I also know a woman who got colon cancer, with no family history, at age 41. She was diagnosed last March. It was stage 4 and she died about 3 weeks ago. she never had a "first" colonscopy, because she wasn't old enough.
My point is this, everyone knows someone whose cases fall outside of the statistics.
I don't have to defend the Obama Administration. No matter how long we have this discussion, you will continue to go on and on, without having carefully read the recommendations.

I have quoted no antidotal case histories of exceptions for cancer. My point is simple; you responded to my post with your usual protect the messiah at all costs response.
"This has nothing to do with the Obama, or the health care debate". That was your quote in response to my posting of the article concerning o-BAMA's effort to change mammogram policy. I then posted the article with quotes from o-BAMA's idiots trying to explain away their stupid move, and you are attempting to ignore your rather ignorant defense of o-BAMA.

Mammograms before age 50 "saves lives but, not enough lives." So, how many lives is enough? Could somebody give me a #? If this is not a prelude to rationing, then we are all idiots. Can't wait for the next "new" medical newsblast on unecessary preventative healthcare. We ought to have a Lake Martin Forum pool on this issue. Everyone put in $5 and guess which preventative test will be eliminated or limitted next because of brand new medical research. I already put in my vote for colonoscopy's. Any other takers? In addition, if I win, I will donate my winnings to the American Cancer Society. I promise.

the sickening government spin that is spouted by the Post doesn't impress me at all. Interesting that she quickly stated that the Task Force does not make policy, and in the next breath acknowledges that the Task Force works for her. Guess that gives us a clue as to her control and management of the Department.
Still trying to figure out the purpose of this post.

The article didn't originate with the WP. It was an AP article. It was also published in today's Birmingham News.
I don't think it is a plot. It's just an article.
Time will tell the recommendations go -- but I suspect, given the reaction, that it will be dropped.

The Federal Government isn't telling your family members that they can't have a cancer screening.
Remember, this is the RECOMMENDATION of an independent task force that is under contract to the government. The government can adopt the recommendations, or they can reject the recommendations.
They can modify the recommendations. Or, like a lot of independent task forces reports, the whole thing can be deep sixed and nothing ever done with its recommendations.
And if the recommendations were adopted under the new health care reform, I'm sure you could still have any cancer screening you are willing to pay for. Just like those whole body scans that are periodically offered that your insurance doesn't pay for.

I think I will vote Prostate Cancer.
It is all terrible, and I have to assume many of our Grand and Great Greats in our heritage died and there was no known cause other than Natural Causes.
It will happen to me one day, and I can only hope they can ease me on out of this life particuarly if it is a terrible agonizing death.
Many of us now have a better glimpse of the "Sun Set" than in our younger years.
