Anyone know anything about the WW II vintage fighter planes that have been buzzing the lake the last couple of days. Saw a tight formation of 4 yesterday. About 30 minutes ago three made a low level (bout 100 ft) bombing run in single file through the open area of Sandy Creek. Neat show.
Don't know my planes well, but lead (silver) plan may have been a navy torpedo bomber, middle plane (yellow) may have been an SNJ, and couldn't tell much about last plane.

Yea, 2 came over my place today at about 5000. They were to high to tell for sure but the yellow and blue is pre war Army Air Corps Trainer Colours. And the other looked to have D day invasion stripes on the wing. Wish I could have seen them cutting up over the lake.

Evan Zeiger and friends, taking off and landing at the Willow Point airport. There were 7 of them at one time yesterday afternoon. They need mufflers!

T6s were flying over the lake this week and a joy to watch! They don't need mufflers...the noise is the prop going supersonic!

Here we go again,just took off.Seems like this would be more of a
safety hazard than the big boats,not counting the noises!Flying low above the water surface,four planes in close formation,in a highly populated area.They may be good at what they do,but accidents do happen.One mistake,then what?Just my opinion.Still cool.

At least if they try to loop the Kowaliga Bridge, they will have more clearance than the Tuskeegee Airmen had in WWII with the old bridge.

I have met Dr. Zeiger and his father taught me ground school when I was learning to fly. He and his friends do air shows regularly and have many hundreds of hours behind the stick. Yes, accidents do happen. Aviation insurance is not cheap, but you can bet each of those planes are heavily insured.
There is no comparison between pilots of cool planes that are trained to fly them and big power boats that anyone with enough money that can buy one and run it without ANY experience behind the wheel.
Thank God their are men such as these that keep these war birds in the air. Not only for the owners that enjoy flying them , but those of us who can't afford to play like that but can watch. It is a very expensive hobby that only the top earners can afford.
Doctor, You have my permission to come to Logan Martin to buzz any day. I stop and watch all war birds when they fly over because one day, there won't be any more up there.
And yes they are loud, but remember one thing, that is and was the sound of freedom. I appreciate each and every person that has had anything, no matter how trivial, to do with keeping our freedom.

I like the sound of those radial engines, but nothing beats the sound of a Merlin powered P-51 Mustang!

On Parker Creek there are at least 2 small Piper-Type seaplanes and a helo. See them all the time cruising up and down the creek, landing, taking off and taxiing along.
Kinda' cool to watch. Makes me want another toy sometimes?

I enjoy seeing them also, but I heard (hear-say) that one of their's neighbors had a difficult time selling their cabin either next door or close to one of them because of the plane.
A few year ago there was a small black helicopter (ranger size) that used to land on a dock in the Parker Creek area. I have not seen it lately. The dock was hardly any larger than the skids. He had to be a good pilot.
