Yes there engines are a little noisy(that’s because there close to two thousand horse power in 1940’s technology) Yes there propellers make a chattering noise(that’s because there tips are close to breaking the sound barrier). But some sixty years ago those planes were in a fight for not there lives but for our lives. They were flown, maintained, built by some of the bravest men and women in history. Women built and sometimes ferried the fighters to the war theaters. So on this day December 7 I would like to remember some of the people that made up what we call “The Greatest Generation Ever”

Amen to your post. My father is 85 and still very much alive. We had lunch Sunday and he talked about his days in the Army during WWII. Those were some very brave men and women. GOD bless them all.

My father is 85 and presently living in Alexander City Veterans Home (a great place that has my thanks and respect). He was a navy person in the south Pacific but nt involved with Pearl Harbor. Indeed the greatest generation. To them all my heart-felt thanks.

Amen! My mother was one of those women who ferried aircraft, towed targets, and tested repaired aircraft. My Dad was also a pilot in WWII. I miss them both but am so proud of their contributions.

My father, who is still alive and lives (independently) in Florida, is 83. He served it the Pacific theatre in the Navy during WWII and then in the Korean conflict. The war was definitely their touchstone for their generation, no matter what else they did in their lives. I'm very proud to have had 3 veterans -- my Grandfather served in WWI, my father in WWII and Feb in the Vietnam war.

We finally have something in common. My dad served on a Navy Destroyer in the Pacific Theatre and also in the Korean Conflict. He is 87 and extremely healthy however, dimentia has set in. There is allot to be learned from these old vets. Really a different breed.

One thing that I notice, is when people of a certain age meet, they still find out where they served in the war. It's like they automatically have that connection that lasts even to this day. The war was a common thread throughout their lives.
