Traveled to Christmas party on Lake Lanier in Georgia last week. They were down more than 22 feet for over a year or more. Now the lake is a bit above full pool.

We talked about the water wars. Most of the party attendees were full time lake residents. Most realized that Georgia has to do something to accommodate the needs of Alabama and Georgia. One interesting suggestion they say is being mentioned is buying out Georgia Power’s power generation plant at the lake and making it a reservoir for Atlanta’s need. I am not real sure how this would impact the water war. Guess this would enable Atlanta to control water flow to meet their needs rather that Georgia Power’s need to generate electricity. Think this might be helpful?

Enabling Atlanta to control water flow to meet its needs is what generated the legal ruling in the first place, was it not? How is that a solution that Alabama and Florida would find suitable?

I believe Federal money built Lake Lanier – thus the reason they have lost in courts. Georgia Power’s generation has never part of the equation that I have seen.

that they have allowed uncontrolled growth, without regard to longterm infrastructure growth to accomodate the population growth. Good for Developers early on. Bad in the long run.
Growth is good, most of the time.
Uncontrolled Growth is Bad.
Also known as,,, Cancer.

I'm 99% sure Georgia Power nor Southern Company do not have any stake in Lake Lanier electric generation.

Part of the issue with the flow from Lake Lanier i slreated to endangered species in rives that receive flow from the Hooch. Whoever owns the lake won't be able to escape that conundrum as the minimum flow is related to federal law. What we have seen fro sure over the last year is that a high tide (lots of rain) does lift all boats.

that Georgia Power does not generate power from Lake Lanier......that is federal power generation...... they sell their output to muni and EMC systems........
