Do we really care about gambling in Macon Co. at the Dog track? What is the point here? What does Riley have to gain? Is there an agenda? There is a Casino in Montgomery, and Elmore County. I don't go there, but I am curious!

for McGregor hiring the P.I. and causing the task force chief to look like a fool, which in turn made Riley look like a fool and causing him to resign (task force chief). So now Riley is going to cause McGregos all the heartache he can. What he is not caring about are several items: 1) he is putting several thousand people out of jobs, 2) he is spending a ton of tax payer money on lawyers, which could be spent on education instead of cutting education money, 3) He is totally ruining any chance he has at getting re-elected. The competition is going to eat him alive when the campaign starts. And your ask for what....NOTHING. Not one single good thing will come from shutting any of those places down. The place has been there for 20 years and no one said a word...especially when McGregor was giving huge sums to campaign budgets. I think it is going to come down to the people's vote and this time I think the people will get their way. The southern Baptist will come out in force like they did 10 years ago but I think now days they are out numbered. Just my half a cent take on it.

I won't deal with the moral issue here but, if Alabama wants gambling they should open up gambling to full casino and forget this bingo junk. Slap a 25% gross receipts tax on it, regulate payoffs and let it go. Today, it seems crooks own the bingo halls and own the politicians. Citizens need to regain control of the situation and have real gambling or outlaw all of it. Either way they need to get the crooks and politicians out of it.

Amen..Gambling is paying for all 3 of my kids education in Georgia. The schools are suffering here and its all about nothing. It is stupid to put people out of work when we have a large unemployment rate. As for taxes, do it and let the schools and people reap the benefits like in every other state that has it. Call it a tax on the poor if you wish...The poor will always find a way to gamble, it will just be in another state where we gain nothing from it.....

Aside from the damage done to families by addiction of one kind or another... So why don't you legalize and tax gambling, weed, prostitutes and tax it so the state can pay for the people who don't work because of gambling, weed and prostitutes.

I am sure there are a lot of things--personal and political--causing Riley to lose it like he has now. That "impeach" plane flying over the Rose Bowl prior to the BCS Championship game didn't help at all either. But you have got to be one cold, calculating, vindictive $OB to wait for the two developments in Macon and Houston counties to invest hundreds of millions of dollars before stepping in to destroy them!

Even on a local level, if they are in the office, they are the problem. Come election time, get them all out.

Let's not forget that AG King is the real fault in this whole problem. McGregor must have photos of King with farm animals or something, for King to absolutely refuse to do his job. The Supreme Court ruled, King refused to do his job, then Riley stepped in and took over the job of King and got attacked by the bingo crooks. McGregor thought he had bought off everyone, but he obviously forgot the AL Supreme Court, and Riley. BTW, Riley's two terms are up and he won't be running for anything this year.

"Bingo", or glorified slots just somehow looks and sounds crooked. But, a state run Lottery, earmarked for EDUCATION and properly managed could solve a lot of problems. A pre-paid college for grandchildren in Alabama, about $23,000 over 16 years. Same plan in Florida with a lottery to support schools, $8000 over 16 years. Got grandchildren in both systems.

I think it should be regulated and taxed but for the general fund. Here's an interesting viewpoint....

Georgia did that right. If that were the model and proposed law here, I'd go for it. Other states such as SC, promised they'd do like GA, but did not.

No argument with most of what you say, except for one thing: it isn't this that will keep Riley from being re-elected, it's the fact that he's NOT RUNNING that will keep him out of the Governors mansion. (And he's not running because the law won't allow it; Alabama doesn't allow a governor to serve more than two consecutive terms.)
