Some good news for a CHANGE..............

Bloomberg

U.S. Economy: Unemployment Rate Unexpectedly Declines to 9.7%
February 05, 2010, 11:08 AM EST
More From Businessweek

Timothy R. Homan

Feb. 5 (Bloomberg) -- The unemployment rate in the U.S. unexpectedly dropped to 9.7 percent in January, indicating the labor market may be poised to climb out of its deepest slump since World War II.

More than half a million Americans found work, a Labor Department report showed today in Washington, helping push the jobless rate to the lowest since August. A separate survey of employers showed payrolls declined by 20,000 as construction companies and state and local governments cut back.

Manufacturers hired more workers for the first time in three years, expanded hours and boosted pay, which may lift consumer spending and sustain growth. Revisions to previous data increased the number of jobs lost in the recession to 8.4 million, adding impetus to the Obama administration’s push for fresh government measures to boost employment.

“The labor market, six months after the economy turned positive, is beginning to find its bottom,” said Neal Soss, chief economist at Credit Suisse in New York, who forecast a payroll drop of 25,000. “We’re still teetering on the cusp of job growth.”

You are joking right? We were expected to add 100,000 jobs and we loast another 20,000. Last week "new" claims for unemployment jumped back to almost 500,000 and in the jobs report last month was revised much worse.

We have now lost 8.4 million jobs.

manufacturing jobs dropped by another 60,000 in the report .... but Government jobs "increased". Oh that is great ... what does the government do to pay for those new jobs ... tax people and businesses so more private sector jobs are lost and their is fewer tax generators.

You can not be happy like Obama that unemployment fell to 9.7% ... when you are still losing jobs, the only way for unemployment to drop is have more people give up looking for work because they are hopeless. And that is what happen.

Lastly, if you read the numbers, we would have lost over 100,000 jobs again this month if it was not for "temporary and part-time" employment growth during the holidays. Those are really great jobs to be creating .... especially when Obama and the liberals were critical of Bush when unemployment was well under 5% and they said but they are not "quality" jobs.

It is sad to even suggest anything positive in this job report and you should be ashamed of yourself for doing so when now 8.4 million jobs have disappeared from the economy and Obama's policies have not worked and will not work.

We will get job growth this year ... but 2011 is looking bad already and Obama will go down in history to be the only president ever to have negative job growth while president.

You make me laugh when I want to chew nails... The unemployment rate in my industry, architecture and construction is over 25%... When construction picks up the economy will pick up. The construction industry drives this economy... Wood, steel, carpet, electrical, plumbing, mechanical... etc... Until the Obama puppet adminstration releases the loan requirement we will not come out of this recession.

How can the unemployment rate possibly drop when additional jobs are lost unless there is fuzzy accounting going on, or those who fall off the roles are no longer considered unemployed? If total jobs were lost then actual unemployment went up.

In the world of being a public spokesperson you are coached from the crib to be "creative" with your comments. This latest report regarding our unemployment picture is nothing more than an exercise is regurgitating "fuzzy math" prose. Today's economic guru's attempt to make us believe that 2+2 = anything they desire. If you feel like announcing that our unemployment rate has dropped, use a basic fuzzy math formula to corroborate your statement(s). A new truism, if you are not actively looking for work, you can't be considered unemployed. These econo-nitwits who report this creative rubbish need to add another category for those who are not currently seeking employment, let's just classify these poor souls as NWC (not worth counting). This category shall remain unreported and not be a part of any "unemployment" report. After all it's much easier to ignore unpleasant facts if you can denigrate there existence. Fortunately most of us put little stock in these unemployment reports as now days they will most certainly be revised and then revised again. Economic forecasting is well on it's way to joining climate change alchemy as a "junk science".
