Yup, he really "showed" them. World is rid of one more sick dude. Thankfully, he was the only one who died.

I agree that it is fortunate that no one else was injured ... but it is a sad day in america that a person feels his only solution is death rather than fight the tax man. They are brutal and with the deficits Obama is putting on the country, they are looking to take all they can even it it destroys someone.

The answer is to abolish the IRS and move to the fair tax or a flat tax and be done with it.

Think of how many government jobs could be eliminated saving tax payers billions of dollars, while increasing tax revenues.

I don't agree with you. That's like saying that the teacher at UAH was justified in killing her colleagues because the university wasn't giving her tenure.

The man was obviously suicidal. And generally people who are suicidal tend to blame their problems on others because they can't manage their own lives.

Hound, although I agree he was disturbed there is a big difference between not getting tenure and the immense impact the IRS can have on a person that runs afoul of them.

On the one hand, the person that is denied tenure can certainly go elsewhere and pursue tenure or she could simply stay on as a professor without tenure and teach or do research. Not a lifetime appointment but not the end of the world.

As for the IRS, they can garnish your wages, take your possessions, freeze your bank accounts and make your life miserable in so many other ways, all at the point of a gun. The IRS can give people in their crosshairs an incredible feeling of helplessness and despair, even for those not disturbed.

His was mostly an act of immense desperation in which he tried to take others with him. She wasn't looking to end her misery but instead looked to take it out on others. What worries me more is the copycats out there that are likewise at the end of their rope dealing with the IRS. Expect more of these types of things as the economy continues to struggle and the federal government becomes more enforcement oriented with regard to taxes.

"Here's a crazy thought, pay your taxes!!!!"

What are your taxes? Do you know each year how much tax you will pay? Do you know each year what will and will not be taxed?

For 99% of the working American people, they don't know how much they must pay… or get returned to them… until the refund does or does not come! The Government can surreptitiously… can, hell it DOES… skim money from the taxpayers (AMT). The tax code is so complicated and is so convoluted that only highly trained accountants can sort through it each year. Tax code is revised behind closed doors. The taxpayer has NO say or participation in the development of tax code.

Until we get a flat and fair tax on consumption, rather than income, we’ll have distraught people… who inexplicably lose their earnings and savings… going postal and committing irrational acts against the irrational system which did them in.

Doesn't sound to me like it was "convoluted" tax codes that did him in with the IRS; sounds more like it was "unreported income" that caused him to do himself in.

Sorry, I don't see any blame in this other than his own. The man was obviously depressed and suicidal and this was his excuse. Now his wife is left holding the bag of trying to explain it.
No doubt his estate (i.e., his wife) will be left trying to cope with insurance on the house he set on fire and probably wrongful death suits. Yeah, he's a real hero.

.... seems to me somebody has to be dead before she could be hit with wrongful death suits. Thank God nobody but him was killed. If anything she should pursue wrongful death for him against the out of control agents who pursued him.

And just as an aside, the IRS Enforcement divisions just ordered THOUSANDS of new shotguns.

Someone in the building was killed besides the pilot. It was on the news today. And I assume the estate could be sued for hospital bills for those who were injured.

The only difference between the Professor in Huntsville and the pilot in Austin....each had a screw loose..it just happened to be located in a different portion of their brain. One, (allegedly) shot her brother for no reason ...she didn't get the tenure); Two, she got mad at her biology professor(I think it was biology)..he done her wrong , she had been working hard to get tenure and when her name did not come up,she got even with several of her collegues/.Oh, in addition, before she decided to attend the meeting to see about tenure, she had a day at the firing range, hoping to improve her aim. In any event, after working so hard (as she claims) tenure passed her by and there was no recourse but to get mad.and even..and now that is her Defense, a/k/a insanity. It should never had happened to her, it was not her fault. Somone else is ALWAYS to blame.

The guy in Texas felt the same way, he just attempted to do it on a larger scale and wanted to prove a point (to people other than to himself andhis family) I don't know....He just thinks "I'll show you"..

All is very sad, but life goes on. She was a wacko teaching college and no, you can't prepare for every tiny incident that might occur on a college campus or anywhere else..

Bottom line, I believe a person who does any type of destruction towards others is basically trying to make a statement that says "I'm mad as hell at what you've done and I don't care about the consequenecs."

Which, quite frankly, is really scary. I worked in law office where there was a disgrunted employee who came to work one day with gun in a showbox. Fortunately, it turned out OK. You never know what your fellow employee is doing.

My thoughts, but Ican get really pixxxedofff about stuff, I just don't have the bollls to spout off like the great majority of you. Most of you do it better than others.

Actually, we could have the Olympics of mostly "non-participants" and give you guys a grade...maybe even a prize...i.e. lower mortgages; low interest rates for small business owners; lottery to go across state line to get cheaper health insurance; no pre-exisitng problems; capital gains taxes will remain as they are (that's what I'm hoping for); free gas for 1 year or the chance to have the water in front of your lake house remain at full pool year round....with water temp at 78.

this is my longest ramble. Hope you listened, if not....I'm watching you! HA
